Alright, got a question for all the 2UZ V8 owners out there! First, background information:
I recently acquired a 2003 V8 Limited that a buddy helped me semi-rebuild for a good price, 329K on truck, (supposedly) 156K on a new-to-that-truck motor. The original motor had been killed by a failed timing belt. Exactly one week after taking ownership of the truck, I blew up the motor again, this time due to overheating. Still not sure if it was a radiator issue, thermostat issue, or what. A month later, and the truck has another V8 in it, this time a genuine 150K motor with receipts from a reputable shop. A day after I picked up the truck from the shop, top radiator hose blew off as soon as I parked it at work, and next thing I know I'm replacing the radiator.
I believe that my overheating, and subsequently killing my motor, was due to the same reason the top hose popped off the newest motor, which is that the radiator top hose inlet was extremely worn down/crusty, and had no more lip remaining which the factory clamp could hold the hose around. With this in mind, last week I replaced the radiator, top and bottom hoses, thermostat and pressure cap, all with Advance Auto parts (I'm poor). I also flushed about 10g of water through the motor because my shop used green coolant, and I wanted to switch back over to red (I believe it's just red Prestone "Asian Blend" coolant).
Since those parts went in, I haven't experienced any problems popping the hoses off, and to my knowledge this motor has never been overheated. My coolant temps under normal driving conditions over around 185-190F, as read by my Scangauge II.
I apologize for all the information, but here's my question: How much radiator coolant pressure are y'all V8 owners seeing from your trucks. My top and bottom hoses, when the motor is warm, can be "squeezed" a little bit, they're not "rock hard", as some say, but the system seems to be more pressurized than I'm used to seeing in, say, my buddy's V6 Tacoma. I'm trying to determine if this is "normal" for these motors, or if there's still a fix that I'm chasing.
I can't think of anything else that I could possibly replace. And again, there's technically nothing "wrong", and my motor isn't overheating. I'm just at that awkward place where I love the truck but don't trust it right now, so I'm trying to rule out any issues I might still have with it.
