2way Remote Start/Alarm input???

First off I know there are many threads on remote starts but I didn't see anyone commenting about the 2way systems from Viper.

I am considering the Viper 5900 2way Pager Alarm/Remote Starter for my 07 4R.

It is 2 way technology that allows me to remote start up to 1/2mile away.

I travel so much that it's nice to know that I can start my car on a 10 degree day buried in snow and start defrosting the windshield, AND GET CONFIRM OF START from the other side of the hotel. I do hear that the batteries go dead in the remote pretty quickly but I feel it's a small price to pay to have some do what I need it to do. Also I was planning on having a perimeter sensor installed as well as mods to roll ALL windows down on those hot days.

My questions to you 4R and remote start/alarm owners is:

1. Is Viper reputable? (Directed Electronics: Viper, Valet, Clifford, Python, Avital, Hornet, etc)
2. Would you recommend another brand that is better that has the same features? 2 way, lcd fob, 1/2 mile range, perimeter sensor capable.
3. Has anyone done this themselves or are there any installers here that can guide me through the install? Any downsides to not having an authorized dealer install? I checked with my local Viper auth. installer and they want like $1300 for everything. Seems a lot high when I can buy the alarm only online for $300!!!

Funny, I was thinking about doing the same thing. Any opinions or what people have done would be appreciated.

I have the basic Valet Remote Starter on my wife's Highlander and it works great. However it only works from about 100 yards away and there is no 2way paging on it. Other than that I can see any features that I've lost from the factory alarm other than the beeps. They are still there I just have to use the factory fob.


Anyone have any info on the Viper for us?
