2wd center console to 4wd one will it work

I have 98 4Runner auto trans and was wondering if I could get a 4wd one with the auto shifer would it hook up to the same trans cable? I want the space were the 4wd shiftered would be to mount something. If that will not work can I just swap out the shifter grip to a 4wd one? The 2wd is just so big.

lot of work that isnt worth it inless you are converting to 4wd.

youd have to change your shift linkage underneath, cut a new hole under the floorboard since the 4wd auto shift linkage comes up front while the 2wd goes right under the shifter.

change the grip of the shifter to the pistol grip if you want.

as you can see the hole had to be enlarged upwards and back, with 2wd its just a hole about the size of the auto plate.

Is it possible to swap the shifter handle on that 4wd onto the 2wd, the ones up there in the pics? Is it a simple pull off, put on?

two screws on the back if you just wanna swap the leather knobs out

Or is gear shifter different all the around. The Only reason I what to get the 4wd center consel is to fab a place to mount two gauges were the 4wd shifter would go but if it will now work I will not work and will have to come up with a new idea
