2WD Lift

In your own personal opinions, how useful is a lift on a 2WD model?

I'd love to have one, but I'm not so sure my truck is capable of much more than dirt roads and a little bit of mud. If I did lift it, I'd go with some nicely sized A/T's or possibly some M/T's but I'm thinking I should leave my truck alone mostly. And I would love to go wheelin' off-road, but no crazy mudpits for my baby...she'd get stuck so fast haha.

Should I just stick to upsizing to 265/75/16 and save the lift for a more capable 4WD 4Runner later on?

i think it would be fine, ive been to texas you dont even need 4wd down there. it will look just like a 4x4 with meaty tires but no one will know.
you can always look into long travel kits, like prerunner style.
 
i agree with the prerunner set up hell these trucks are pretty damn capable in 2wd. plus it would look cool.

haha very very true. my buddies always mention how ridiculous these 4x4 F-350's are with their Krawler tires and their 12" lifts! It's pretty flat here, but some rains will make the gravel pits pretty nasty! haha

Thanks for your input. I'll probably just upgrade the tires and leave it at that. Save me some money!

Toyota Tacoma PreRunner

The Toyota Tacoma PreRunner model was added to the impressive line of Tacoma mid-sized pickup trucks in 1998. This interesting model name was inspired by the vehicles used to 'pre-run' off road race courses prior to their completion for competition purposes. As such, the PreRunner was promoted as being able to expertly undertake the same driving conditions that are presented on a typical race track. However, much of the PreRunner is about show and image. Although it looks like a sporty 4 x 4, it is not. This truck does do much better than other two wheel drive pickups during off road use due to its increased height, locking rear differential and huge all terrain tires. However, much of what this pick up looks like it can do it cannot. In appearance, large fender flares and a rough and tough looking grille and front end definitely allude to much more under the hood.
 
prerunners are not just a toyota thing tho, its a big sport actually, baja trucks and like trophy trucks are built for speed and most are 2wd with long traveling suspension like 13+ inchs of travel they are pretty sick

I just think that if I am going to put any significant time or money into the performance of a vehicle, on-road or off-road, I would want it to be a manual transmission. Adds reliability, and if you are working with a fragile setup with many modifications, I figure why throw an auto tranny in the mix: they are heavy, and frankly, I don't know how the hell they work. Wouldn't want the weak link of a machine being an enigma to fix. Maybe I'm just picky. haha
 
Mines 2wd... With 265/75 terra grapplers aired down to 14psi my truck impresses the hell out of me. But since you can't climb with 2wd, speed is where your gonna have fun. Search "coilovers".
 
Check out www.chaosfab.com they got some long travel kits that'll give you 13" inches of front wheel travel. Slap some prerunner style fiberglass fenders on it and it would look so sick! Picture below is a 4runner with the long travel and fiberglass fenders.

Yeah the prerunner fenders look so cool. I'm not sure if that truck has the chaos setup but it would look just like that if you went with chaos.
