Do you believe it, more than 18 MPG. I just finished a 1500 mile trip from Kansas to Calif and on 3 tanks I got more than 18 MPG. I was absolutely babying it to see how good I could get. I ran one tank with A/C and only got 15.
I ran a steady 65MPH which is about 2800 rpm. The motor now has about 6K and looks to breaking in nicely.

last road trip I had, I got 17.8 on the interstate going about 70, without ac and pulling an empty utility trailer. I got 17.4 on the way back, but that was smaller highways with towns in between. I've tightened the maf 3 clicks and advanced the timing a few degrees--I feel that has helped.

Mine will do 20-21 at 45-50 mph, goes down from there. 18 at 65 mph sounds about right. 75 mph drops it to around 17.

Knowing its a freshly rebuilt motor with the manual trans and dif swap I felt mechanically things were setup about right. I good trip to gauge what else needs to be done to get this truck dialed in.

Got 21 on a road trip down to N.C. under the absolute best conditions . I couldn't believe it . I rechecked the math at least three times . But sure enough , 21mpg . Did a dance in the parking lot

17.8 up 21 down Trips to Mammoth.

Going up to to Mammoth just under 18 mpg but on the way back downhill 21 mpg. Fresh engine and new AFM and Injectors. Why buy a new one?:worthless
1991 3vze 5 sp and manual hubs

OK, back to setup mode. Now that I know 21 is realistic. Thanks for sharing.

Tightened the MAF? Meaning you adjusted the cog 3 clicks to the right? Hmm I bought a spare one to tinker when I get my flamethrowers..

I don't remember the direction exactly. Tightening it leans it out a little, so whichever way tightens the spring. Just mark the initial notch in case you want to go back, or the next owner wants to go back.

I also tried the flamethrowers. One never worked right and neither did the two replacements they sent out. I ended up putting back in the stock injectors. I think what made a big difference for me, hesitation wise, was replacing the fuel pump. I know one of my injectors leak because the pressure drops at the rail as soon as I turn the truck off. So I just made a primer button that engages the fuel pump and prime the rail for about 10 seconds before starting and Varoom! she starts right up.

23mpg

I get a reliable 23mpg, drops to around 19 in town driving . I don't even feel like I'm bragging because petrol here (Scotland) costs equivalent of $6 per gallon.

WOW! That is awesome. 23MPG is impressive, how many miles on your truck? Good looking truck.

Thanks! It's got 57000 miles on the clock, 1 previous owner, always ran on fully synthetic oil (Not 100% synthetic, there is a technical difference believe it or not). Previous owner was an old man who'd just use it as a shopping cart.

I should probably add that its 23mpg doing around 60mph. I'll be doing an 800mile motorway trip soon. I'll definitely be calculating how the efficiency fares at 70mph.
