3.0 crankshaft gear removal

i have an 88 3.0 and i need to remove the crankshaft gear,does the key come out first ,if so how is that done,or does it slide over the key

the crank bolt is a b**** to remove you just have to put a bar acrost the pully so it dosent move or if its a 5 speed put the tranny in gear..then put a socket on it and try ur hardest to loosen it...if u have any air tools use them it will make it easy
