3.0 oil leak on passenger side

Rebuilt the motor and took a 2nd try to stop a valve cover gasket leak and here we go again. My son is scheduled to take this truck from socal to his duty station in Kansas on Tuesday and this bs happens. I now have 1000 miles on the truck after the build. Im surprised a have a leak again from the valve cover and hope to see a clear view of the leak once I pull of the plenum I don't want to have to play with the cam seal and plug. Ok done crying and now off to fixing this pig.
I have to say the emission system and wiring have been a pain in the ass.

Well it appears the sealing of the plug may be the culprit. It was pretty oily and the small return plug my have been plugged with gasket sealer. Try again...
 
Those plugs are usually the culprit.
I use Permatex Right Stuff on them. Worse case, I apply it between the plug and that retaining ring that bolts on the back of the head. Seems to have stopped all my leaks.
 
I used Permatex ultra grey on most of the build including the trans and diffs. For some dumb reason I didn't use it on the original install. Lets hope I got it right the 2nd time. It must be ready tomorrow morning to start the 1200 mile drive to Kansas.
 
I thought I had it solved. Nothing from the valve cover or cam plug as we drove around town for 3 days, not a drop. My son was on mile 1300 of a 1450 mike trip and it starts to leak a ton. Still no definite source as he unpacked and I hope is sleeping. We'll see what this latest leak is all about.
The 3.0 has been a challenge to get dialed in.....

Not good. Good luck with solving it. I'd love to hear what you find.
 
I just got my first t4r and its a 95 with a hell of a valve cover leak. Both sides of the block and down onto the tranny covered and costs me a qt of oil every two weeks. After seeing all these 3.0 leaks ill definitely be on here looking for the best solution. Good luck with yours!
 
Everybody- google AT205. Buy it, try it. It has solved some leak problems for me in the past. I give my motor a little sip every once in a while just to keep seals good to gk
 
The valve cover leaks can be solved. New gasket, clean sealing surface on both the VC and the head & sealant,you're good to go. Clean the small sleeves so they float and allow even seal squeeze once torqued.

It is good stuff. So good that I keep it on hand at work (we run a fleet of 15 trucks, some up to 80,000 GVWR). Any time I see a leak, I hit the system with a dash of it.

THIS x2. I did the job a few times before I decided to run a bead with my finger around the OUTSIDE of the plug with "The Right Stuff" and then sandwich it with the retaining ring. Been leak free for quite a while.

Plus, who cares - you cannot see it and it takes 10 minutes to try. Just ensure you take a rag and brake cleaner and clean the surface really good first.

I know it is beyond the scope of your problem now but I cannot back this tip up enough.
