3.4 only for 3rd gen?

Hi, someone recently told me that all of the 6 cylinder 3rd Gen 4runners (1996 - 2002) have the 3.4L Engine. And all the 6 cylinder2nd Gen's (1990 - 1995) have the 3.0L.

Is this true?
(including occasional exceptions and swaps, of course)

That is true. And 3.4L > 3.0L in every which way.
