3.4 to v8 swap for 99 limited

I know someone is going to burn me for this BUT.... I have talked about this with a buddy before and I think it would be BA!

If you are going to go big then go BIG! The only thins is that you would have to do a live solid up front but I'm sure it can be done.

Oh...people here are so nice trying to give you good, cost-effective advice. I, on the other hand, want to sit back in my chair and read about (and SEE PICS) of your progress on a V8 swap. Seems like you have your mind made up, but in case you have any doubts, my advice is...supercharger/regearing will do NOTHING to give you extra oomph. V8 is the ONLY way! :naughty:

As far as engine choice, I'd say go for the 4.7L that came factory in the 4th gens. You can prob find quite a few 4th gens at junkyards/auctions. V8 baby! Be the t4r.org hero! :guitar3:

I assume he's talking about the 2nd gen '90-'95 4Runner's.

When they came equipped with the 3VZE V6, auto trans, and 31x10.50R15 tires, they had 4.88 axle gearing.

If you really want a V8, I'd go with the 5.7. You can even get a TRD Supercharger for it. 500+ hp.

Of course there would be some fabrication involved.

Depending on if your a Toyota purist I'd say 1uz all the way but seems like you have other stuff to learn soldier..

99 limited still had elocker won't it? So bo you can't swap out the rear diff with something else. Unless you don't have a rear locker then yes 79-95 Toyota 3 members will swap. I would not look for factory 4.88 thirds because you can't change the gears if I remember or maybe it was locker options. I doubt the clam shells between 86+ are inner changeable as well. Not that I'd want to keep a 7.5/8" diffs in my truck once a v8 was swapped in anyways. I'd look into a tundra 10.5 or lc 9.5 and sas the rig.

In the end your better off selling the runner as is and buying a v8 runner 03+ you don't seem to computer literate so I don't think a swap like this would be wise on your part, or else you will end up with thousands invested into a truck that's still torn apart in your garage.

There is a reason you don't see a lot of people swapping out these motors you can get plenty of power with a supercharger and urd goodies. But in the end of the day your still driving a suv with the aerodynamics of a shoebox.

No, sorry, second gen 4Runners. I think that'd be a 5th gen mini-truck, just before the Tacoma? But I don't know for sure if they ever had 4.88s. I know some 1990-1995 4Runners did, but they aren't common.

I wanna say I pulled a pair of 4.88s from a 3rd gen mini 89-95.5 and yes the 2nd gen 4runners 90-95 came with them also.
To me the generations are strange they start in 79-83 as first Gens but there where stouts also heck some of those came with factory 5.29 gearing! And then really we drive 4th gen 4runners if you count trekkers/wolverines/breaker breakers lol

well hello people.... just got back from deployment... you know how i was talking about future plans for the 4runner and how i want a v8.... well i ended up buying a 2014 ram 1500 5.7 ... well thats plenty v8.. and the 4runner is going to be my wifes grocery getter/weekend warrior ...

shout out to Colorado Springs 4runner owners. ive been seeing pretty good rigs after i came back! hit me up ! oh me and my friend buying a 95 4runner for fun and its going be a our new toy so will be posting about mods and work.
