3.4L Auto to manual 2wd transmission info

I don't know if there were 2wd 5 speeds. Everything I see seems to be 4x4 5speeds. But I highly doubt the 5speed was in 4x4 only. However. Your best thing is to find a truck that has 5speed and swap it over. I swapped my transmission. From auto to 5speed. How ever it was 4x4. And the tranny I have is r150f. I believe there is another version of the 5speed tranny. But I don't remember the name. But I'm gonna say you gonna the tranny(duh) driveshaft, interior trim, pcm, clutch pedal, brake pedal, maybe engine harness. Again your best finding a truck that's in bad shape but has 5speed and swap.

I have never heard of a 2wd 5 speed so if they do exist they are going to be rare as hell. Easiest way to do it is with a normal 4wd r150 with the transfer case, and just don't put any of the front driveshaft front diff on. That way you can do the normal swap and use the standard crossmember and 4wd rear driveshaft. The good thing is, once you have that transfer case spinning around down there it will shine that divine 4wd light and you will be compelled to make it work. Once again find a 2000 5speed as a donor car as there are a lot of parts you will need(and some you don't realize yet)
the transmission from 2nd gen 4runner with 3.0L will work???

You are not going to get much help because you are trying to do something that none of us have ever seen. When I did my research for a auto to manual swap i never found anyone who did it with a 2wd 4runner. On the tacoma forums i think someone did the full 2wd auto to 4wd manual swap. If you want to put a r150 in it just use the 4wd transfer case and the manual driveshaft, it will all bolt up but you might have to reweld the crossmember. Do your research, there are a few members on here who have done the auto to manual swap and a few more on the tacoma forums. Then start to look for a same year, same engine donor vehicle because its a lot easier to get all the parts off one vehicle than to source them out individually

96-00 only:
R150 = 2wd
R150F = 4wd
pre-96 R150/R150F not ideal! Different input shaft lengths, shifters might not line up with 3rd gens. The 4WD T-cases on these drop the opposite direction.
2WD manuals definitely exist. The kicker is that the bell housing from an R150 will make most R series transmissions fit.
I have an entire 5-speed swap for sale, but it has a transfer case/4wd, located in Southern CA. It's doable to use the R150F but I don't know about how compatible it would to change out the tail housing and eliminate the transfer case.
All in all, with a 2WD R150, swapping this to a manual will be even easier than the 4WD models. Technically you can use an R150F with the T-case and just not install any front driveshaft stuff, just leave it in 2HI basically. But hey, you'd get 2LO, which would be pretty awesome!
basically all you would need (The items I have for a full swap):
R150F 5-speed manual transmission w/ J shift transfer case (4wd only, you'd need an R150 if going 2wd)
Frame crossmember with transmission mount
Clutch fork
Clutch slave cylinder
Clutch lines
Clutch master cylinder
Manual brake and clutch pedal set
flywheel
clutch disk and pressure plate
throwout bearing
Front driveshaft (4wd only)
Rear driveshaft
Trans and T case shifters
Metal/rubber shift boot (under the leather one)
Interior trim with near perfect leather shift boot
Reverse switch
4wd diff switch (4wd only)
clutch start cancel switch (optional)
You would need all of that plus an ECU for 2000 4Runner 5VZ-FE 2WD M/T, and some flywheel bolts/misc hardware/fluids.

Don't know the meaning of this anymore but my 97 is a 5 speed 2wd, try the 96-98 those were the years most popular with eh 2wd 5 speeds in my experience.

your 97 2wd 5speed is probably a 4cylinder and not a v6 5vz
