3/90 4runner

a friend of mine has a 3/90 4runner i am doing this for him cause he ant to smart with a puter lol so anyways they went to town came out from the store and it wouldnt start,, was towed to a repair shop they said the puter went bad so he bought a used one that was supose of come right out a running one so was (to be good ) so he took it and they tried it called him sayin it wasnt any good he called the guy and he swears it was so does anyone have any ideas on this at to what , why , or anything eles to try or where to get what it takes to get it runnin again ?????

Toyota (Denso) EFI computers seldom fail, does the check engine light,oil & brake light come on when ignition switch is opened?, does the engine turn over?, do you have fuel & spark?.
