ok so my 3" coil springs should be here in a few min., just wondering what you guys think. should i wait till i can afford some new OME shocks aswell or would it be a safe bet to just install the new springs with the old shocks. im pretty sure there factory so im thinking i should at least wait till i can get new front shocks .... oh yea shes a 96 limited! aswell i have the running boards if anyone is looking to buy some.....

I didn't wait, I just installed mine. My shocks could probably use being replaced, but they weren't shot and they didn't ride bad so I didn't bother spending the money. I'll have to tear the front coilover assemblies apart again next year, but I didn't find it to be that difficult the first time and don't mind working on my 4Runner so it's no biggie to me.

Definitely wait! There is no point in using shocks that don't belong with those springs and really no point in taking your front suspension out and apart again. Its not fun the first time and just more wear and tear on bolt threads and nuts.

However, OME springs are find to be used with stock shocks under normal driving circumstances. Also, I think that bolt threads and nuts were probably designed to be removed once or twice. I wouldn't worry about suspension falling apart because someone removed a bolt and nut twice instead of once.

" normal driving conditions " is correct, however if he does any off roading with those shocks they most likely rip the pistons out. Doesn't it seem like they will be fully extended with a 3" lift? 1" of lift is no big deal with stock length shocks and articulation.

Like I said though, if he has the money for shocks in a couple of weeks then by all means wait. I bought my lift and my shocks were good and I wasn't gonna be able to afford them for a year or so, so I just threw it on. No problems so far.
