305's on a 4th Gen?

Has anyone ever tried or does anyone know if a 305 tire will fit on a 4th Generation 4Runner? Or will it stick out from the fender too far? From my calculations, the difference between a 305 and a 285 is about 8/10".

Can someone please post a picture of their 4th Gen with 285's or 305's from the front, so I can please see how far they stick out?

i've been posting pics, mostly over at YT cus more people seem interested there. anyway, the amount a tire is going to stick out from the fender is primarily dependent on the wheel and backspacing/offset.

i have 17x8 wheels with 4.5" of backspacing, and they barely stick out at all.

here is one shot of my 315s, i'll get some better ones soon though:

dise -- which 305s are you looking at? if you get a tire that is 12.5" wide, you are going to have to do a LOT of work to fit them. the 315s cleared fine height wise before all the work Anthony and i did this past week, but the width made us have to swap out the upper arms (with a trade NE secret we are developing) and sledge hammer the pinch welds and grind off the frame near the body mounts.

so if the 315s are 12.5" wide, you are going to have a LOT of trouble...

If you plan to offroad stick with 285's. If you don't plan to offroad at all and will not experience any compression where the wheel goes into the wheel well, you can go 305's but expect LOTS (and I mean LOTS) of rubbing and tearing. (do remember that at turns you'll compress).

If you want to cut body parts off then the sky is the limit. Ask 4route for details as she's the expert here since she just did a heavy mod.

i agree with Lance -- 285s would be the biggest i'd recommend unless you want to cut a lot. then again, it still just depends on the specific tire though because the 275/70 MTR was taller (but more narrow) than the 285/70 BFG AT (since any A/T tread is going to measure less than the M/T) ...
