33's, lift, getting 10.5 mpg

just going through a few things on my rig right now, only getting 10.5 mpg, first thing i'm going to switch out is the plugs, they are of single electrode type, and i will be switching to dual tonight. also getting engine light for random misfire, is this common when spark plug wires are going out? thanks all in advance!

Well glad you found your problem. ;) Single electrode plugs are no good. I still don't understand how people install these because there's a big sticker that says use dual electrode only.

Plug wires aren't known to go out that often. But, I may have read a couple people who have had bad wires. Get the NGK (OEM) wires. They aren't that bad. Most common reason for misfire is the coil packs.

Change your plugs first, and see what happens. Next I'd go through and check the coil packs. You can look up how to do this with a multimeter on the correct FSM

I am only getting about 11.5 mpg on my last tank (switched back to ECT off for a tank), with the ECT on tank prior I got about 12.5mpg.
All of it is 99% city stop and go and no more than a mile in any direction before going up & down hills.
I am using the Ultra Gauge to watch my MPG and using the gas pedal like I have an egg between my foot and the pedal.

I have a 3" lift and just running 255/75R-17 Wrangler Silent Armour tires.

I replaced the front O2 sensor that had 159xxx miles on it so thought for sure that would get me an extra 1mpg, but got nothing.

I have all the parts now to do a water pump and all belts and seals and tensioner's, thermostat, plus plugs and wires, PCV valve etc.
Water pump has 158,000 miles on it and starting to squeak.

Probably going to take it in next week I believe to install it all.

I would just like to get 14mpg city so just looking for about 2mpg.
 
that was 10.5 highway mpg lol, terrible, gets even worse in the city, probably 8-9. Working on getting a few things sorted out, rig has 216k miles. fuel filter might be the issue, i'll check a fw things out
 
remember your odometer is going to be slightly off by going to 33's. Its about 5% off. that means your MPG will also be 5% less than its actuall
 
Clean the MAF? Check the air filter? Brake pads/shoes dragging?
We get a consistent 19mpg (adjusted for 33's) in our 5-speed doing nearly 80% city driving.
 
checked all brakes for drag already, brand new filter in the intake, cold air intake installed, that MPG listed above is already corrected, and i did an ODO check, ODO is 8% out on the 33" nitto trail grapplers.
 
Wouldn't it be 5% (or whatever %) better than your odometer is reading? With bigger tires, you're actually travelling further than your odo would indicate.... that means you're getting better mileage than you realize.

Yeah you got something way outa whack for sure, hope it IS the plugs thats an easy and fairly cheap fix.

In California, they jack the prices up a lot. I believe its ~$50 here. Thats why I shop through Toyota Dallas (TRDparts4U)! Its only $25 there...
 
i feel you man i just filled up 17 gallons on 180 mile tank....BLOWS!! nice looking rig you have got though love the way its turning out!
