35" Tires on 22's

Are there any VVTI V6 owners out there with 35 inch tires on 22's. I run 20"s in the winter to use 4WD but in the summer I run a 22 inch rim in the back and run only 2WD. I really want to purchase the NITTO Mud Grapplers but after calling NITTO they only sell this tire in 35" or 37" sizes for 22 inches which is way too large for the height of my 4Runner. I'm thinking about getting a 2 inch suspension lift to combine with my 2" coil spacers and then also purchase 1.5" wheel spacers. According to the tire company this should work. However I was told that I would loose a ton of power trying to move such a large wheel and tire combo. Does anyone have any experience here?

Switching to the Mud Grapplers means I'll have 33"s on the front and 35"s on the back. A total of 6 tires so before I spend all the money I want to do some homework.

If you run the 33" in the front and 35" in the back in 4x4 you are going to screw your differential up in a bad way. I can't see ever really fitting a 35" tire onto a 4runner without major and I mean MAJOR suspension modifications. Check out the Dune Grappler as they make these in 32 and 33 inch sizes. Just make sure that your front and back tire heights are roughly the same.

If you would manage to get the 35's on though you would definitely be looking at re-gearing because your power loss would be substantial. As of yet I have not heard of anyone re-gearing the 4th gen due to the limited availability of parts in north america.

I never put the vehicle into 4WD when the 22"s are in the back. In fact I've tried looking for fuse that I could pull out to prevent the use of 4WD while I ride on the 22"s.

As for the solution to the 35" inch tires. I think I found my answer, a company called ALL Pro in S. California has suspension components, coil-overs and spacers for the FJ Cruiser which they have been installing on 4th Gen 4Runners too because they are built on the same platforms. Terry the guy I talked to was able to fit 35" tires on his FJ Cruiser front and back with the 3" coilovers they sell. He has the same engine and noticed only a minor power loss. They also sell gears to changing the gearing back to stock specs, but didn't feel the change was necessary on his ride.

I'm ordering the components this weekend. So I'll let you guys know how it works for me and take pictures when I'm done. I need to update my photos anyways.

Here is the ALL Pro Link if anyone is interested. They also have many other products not listed on the webstie so you might call if you don't find it. That's how I found out about the 3" lift for the rear. If that still isn't enought I can add a 1-2" spacer to the coils.

35's will fit but will require heavy modifications.

Things to keep in mind:
The FJ's can fit 33's w/o lift whereas the 4runner you can not. They have a larger wheel well so they can stuff more.

I currently run 35's on my long travel setup and rub like crazy stuff. Not sure if you can run this setup but here's some pointers since you're committed.

Things you need to do:

* You will need to cut your front body mount right under the driver/passenger footwell.
* remove both mudflaps
* you will need aftermarket upper control arms
* pound upper fender as I rub there
* front bumper has to go. with 33's you take out a 4x5 triangle. I suspect w/ 35's you'll need to take more out
* remember the Nitto tires are square compared to MT/R's (round) that I have which means it's actually larger (not diameter wise) but rather foot print.
* your frame will rub at full lock. nothing you can do about this outside of getting wheel spacers. getting wheel spacers will give you another problem of rubbing on your fender under full compressor. will need to figure out what width 35's you want to pursue as this will be a problem every time you compress.
* rear bumper will rub must cut
* rear doors may or may not rub

can't think of anything else since by the time I went 35's I wasn't quite stock anymore.

All Pro is great - had a set of sliders on my old Ranger. If they still sold the universal kit I would weld some on yesterday. Wish they made some sliders for 4th gen.

Thanks for your info guys. Wow your Chaos Edition is a beast! Its looks like a giant RC truck.

I'll post pics when I'm done. I won't be with 35's on the front but it's sounding like I'm running into several challenges because I found out the footprint of the Mud Grapplers is quite a bit wider as you were saying and that spacers would cause fender rub.
