35's, How bad to daily drive without gears?

My tires are close to worn out now so its getting time to get new ones. I really want to get a set of 315/70/17's since my fiberglass fenders make my 285's look small.

So my question is, how bad is it to drive with 35's without regearing? I plan to regear in the future, but is it necessary immediately? I really don't want to spend the money on a new set of 285's when I know I want to go bigger in the future. And sorry if this topic has been covered before, couldnt find a definitive answer.

2UZ-FE or 1GR-FE? the V8 will be a bit more sluggish but shouldn't be too bad (you'll want to correct the speedometer), the V6 will probably manage; but you'll notice a power band shift more than the 2UZ-FE

I run 35's with a v6 and the power loss isn't a deal killer. On the freeway going 75 the cruise control wants to up shift down shift but I have no problems getting up to speed. Fuel economy takes a hit. Also I've done a lot of trimming to get them to fit and to allow me to still flex. At 35 I'm off by 5ish mph and 75 off by 10ish lol I just learned to do a little ish math and I tell myself one day I'll fix it but 100 dollars to save me from doing simple math isn't top on my to do list any time soon. I can time myself 0-60 if you like.

1GR-FE for me. What do you mean by shift? Id assume itd just be slower haha.

That doesnt sound too bad, actually sounds a lot like me now driving with 285's. A 0-60 would be nice, but I dont have anything to compare it too. Maybe Ill go out and time one for my current setup.

Im also not really worried about fitting them. I know the front will clear already and the back, well I have no problem cutting til they do.

The three very speedy runs varied from 10.54 to 11.87, not too fast not too slow. I have no performance mods. I have added an overbuilt bumper and sliders. I also run premium fuel. I currently have 132,000 miles.
In my opinion Rolling on 35's priceless

11 seconds!! I went out and confirmed, I am pretty consistent with 7.2 seconds, only .2-.4 slower than stock, but that is with 33's. I do have the V8 though with K&N drop-in filter. I notice a very small amount of loss on my low end, but very small. As soon as I can afford some 35's I'll be able to tell how much more of a difference I'll get.

So I went out and tested my 0-60 times as well, and with a v6 on 285's, I was consistently in the low 10's. Not gonna lie, thats slower than I expected, but also makes me less worried about the 35's. Wish I had the v8 though, those 7 second 0-60 times sound nice.

Ya it's rated at 7 seconds factory with the V8. I love demolishing tuner cars where I live!

Haha, cant beat the look on peoples face as they get passed by a 4runner. Went around with my buddy whos got a v8, and destroyed some ricerockets. Boy were they mad, too much fun

Ya, that's why when people say the V6 is almost the same as the V8 I laugh. My mom has a stock FJ and I demolish her truck. Sometimes when she is following me I like to mess with her cause I know she gets competitive.
The other day I was at a traffic light next to a little turbo charged car, stock. I wasn't paying attention and when the light turned green I started to go, then I hear his tires just squeeling away as he floored it! I instantly hammered down and stayed right beside him until we both let off at 65. He had the advantage cause He gunned it and when I gunned it my truck had to downshift into first already. Was funny as hell though cause the guy was pushing 60!! lol

don't feel too bad. the v6 has been tested from 0-60 around 7.8-8.1, the v8 has been tested, depending on model year, from 7.2-7.8, 03-04 model years were slower as the power was increased 05+. comparing to the FJ cruiser too is pointless, because while it has the same motor and gearing, it is an aerodynamic brick and weighs more, so there really is no comparison. the 4th gen was very fast for its class back in its day, and still is pretty quick compared to a lot of the suvs on the road now, but regardless, it isn't a race car

Those 0-60 times would be unacceptable to me but to each their own I guess.
IDK if its available on iPhone but the Torque app would give you more accurate 0-60 times.

True. The FJ is so tank feeling compared to my truck. My mom's was so harsh, I checked her tire pressure and they had it set at almost 50 psi! Yikes. Backed it off to 32 and it's much better, but still rough.

I crap is called something else I believe, but it's the same thing. Had torque app for my old Mazda Protege and it was great! Was a fun little car.

i run 38 and its not totally smooth and soft, but it does help the mpgs, every little bit counts lol
