360 HP 4Runner...

So whats the big beal here. Its totally possible to make that power with what is posted. Looks like a 6262 or similar sized Percision turbo which will make over 500whp. Properly tuned that would be a beast but a little laggy for wheeling when you need low end power. Nicely done turbo build all it needs is some larger MT tires, a lift and metal bumpers to give it the off road attitude.

I might be able to help with the "why" someone would spend $20,000 on this. You have to remember he said he's in the military. Gosh, I can't count how many times I saw this while I was in the Army....especially with the single guys! You have to remember the military provides all your basic needs...3 hots and a cot! So you really don't have anything to spend your money on. Some guys earn an enlistment or re-enlistment bonus ($2-40,000+)!! Then your unit gets deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan for 6 to 10 months. Think about how much money you'd have in the bank after a 6 month deployment...taking no or very little money out of the bank. Oh and you also get a 20-25% pay raise while gone...because you don't pay federal taxes and get combat pay...to boot! That's quite the payday when you get home...well, if you make it back home!!

Anyway, all that money starts to burn a hole in your pockets. Guys start looking for something to spend their money on...which normally ends up being 1 of 3 things: vehicles, guns, or stereos...or a combination of all 3! So spending $20,000 (or whatever he spent) is not unheard of or crazy. Might be to yall civilians...but in the military, it happens.

Oh and before anyone says it...money on beer and woman are automatic. That's like an almost automatic pay deduction and doesn't requires mentioning...lol!!!!

Hope this shines some light on "why" Someone would be dumb enough to spend all that moeny on a 5VZ in a 4Runner....and then turn around and sell it one year later with only 8000 miles on it!!

That's very true, I used to visit my brother on base and almost every car had something custom on it.

A good portion of the build-heavy rigs on this forum are by veterans.

All true here but again why would it be too laggy? The stock motor is more than capable offroad. So anything the turbo does will be just added fun. I understand if the turbo is needed but its really not. To me the turbo would be more for street use, not offroad.

Not a stock motor. Compression has been lowered which with tuning is not needed. I would have kept the compression at stock. Jme but a slightly smaller turbo and would have more power sooner ie at lower rpms and would be more suited for off the line or dead stop power. Woukd be more useable when stopped on a steep hill or crawling over large rocks. Trd used a supercharger for the low end power and near instant boost they provide.
