3m matte black vinyl

So I decided to do my flares, the rocker panels under the door, and my hood. I like the way it turned out, pretty easy to put on with some patience and a heat gun. The best thing about this stuff is it protects the paint and if you hate it in a couple months you just peel it right off.

I have not had any issues with it peeling away from car. I guess time will tell in a couple months if it is still looking as good as it does now.

We are going to do Sam's Blizzard Pearl in a couple weeks. I think that is going to look sweat with such a big contrast between the paint and matte black flares. I am sure she will throw some pics up when we get that done.

I got it from stickercity.com. Its cheap, a couple hundred bucks to do it all. Comes in 60" width and I ordered by 7' so I could get the rockers with no seams. Buy a little extra because you might mess the first panel you do up. The key is to not heat it up too much when stretching or you can tear it and have a hole in the middle of the panel, sucks. Once you get the hang of it, its easy. I also did my interior pieces with 3m di-noc which is a carbon fiber vinyl. I did the interior door handles, center console and pieces around heater controls and radio. My silver pieces were getting all scratched up so that solved the problem!

Thank ya :) Have not forgotten about you and the rear bumper, just busy. Hopefully get it finished in the next couple weeks!

I never thought of doing the flares in vinyl.Good idea!Did you take them off and do them or just trim along the edge?I love these new vinyls that you use a heat gun instead of the wet application. A little bit daunting with such a big piece on the hood but pretty easy to get the hang of it. I take it you used the 3M 180V1 if you got it from sticker city.

Wait til you get a load of how much easier it is on your eyes with the matte hood. Never knew their was so much glare reflecting off a hood,even at night with oncoming headlights. One of my favorite mods because it impacts me on a daily basis.
 
I have a BP sr5 and had always planned on doing the matte black vinyl on the hood and just recently started thinking about doin the flares. Im gonna have to wait and see the matte fenders on the BP before i decide. Bflan, was the 60" x 7' enough to do everything (hood,fenders,and rockers)? Thanks

I took the flares off and did them that way. That way I could wrap all the way around. Yeah doing it dry is so much better, never would have tackled if I had to do it the old way!

I hear ya about the glare, its so much nicer now!

Yeah, but it was really close. I would order 8 feet to be safe. The key is just taking your time laying everything out so you dont have too much waste, or worse yet, run out and not have enough :(
 
I like it! I too have a BP and was thinking about doing certain pieces just like you. I really like the storm trooper look. This will definitely help with the look. I look forward to seeing sam's. Thanks for the inspiration!
 
Looks fantastic - and good point, Gary, about the glare, never thought about that. My guess is you don't have to take the hood off to do this, but easier to have it flat on the garage floor....
 
Impressive! I used to do big stripes and window tint for extra money while going to college back in late '80's. Everything was a wet application then and a PITA. Your job looks really good. Have any problems with dirt during the application?
 
Wow. That looks really sic. I'm very impressed! I have also noticed the silver inside getting occasional scratches. Seems the interior silver is real prone to scratching compared to my 4th gen anyway... Nice job
 
BFLAN - you beat me to the punch on this one! I have had this on my list for a couple of weeks and plan on getting this going much quicker now that you've provided pics of the finished product, which looks VERY good! I will probably do the front/rear bumper chrome strips w/ this as well. Right now I have 3MM duck tape on them right now and for what it's worth it looks pretty slick and you'd never know it's duck tape even up close due to the texture when pulled tight. Your chopped rockers up close look really good. I'm contemplating putting mine back on now that I have my sliders mounted up. I'll have to read back through the forum to see best practice on cutting those pigs.

Not really. I just made sure to clean all the fenders really good prior to install. I also hosed out my garage prior to install to make sure it was as clean as possible.

The interior is definitely different. I like it more than the silver just because mine was so messed up. The matte black might look really good as well, I just wanted to try something different. But I hear ya, not a look that everyone can appreciate.
