For you fellow junkyard junkies just an FWI. I recently scored some stainless steel rear heater lines off of an '02 and an '00. Apparently '00-'02 had stainless lines vs. the carbon steel rust prone ones found on early 3rd gens.

That license plate holder by itself is worth $100 on eBay. It was a somewhat rare option in 1990 and 1991. I've never actually seen one in person in a salvage yard.

Either the yard rattle-canned the tire carrier or that was the stupidest owner I've ever seen. There's spray paint all over the truck LOL.

They are more difficult to put on a 2nd Gen 4Runner than you would think. Even more so on a 3rd Gen.

The truck was completely totaled and the paint was faded. Must have been bored on day. I'll be getting it powered coated anyway.

'Sides, I bought it and am starting to customize it to the truck. It's going quite smoothly.

Yesterday (Jan 27, 2016) a salvage yard in Oregon just got an OEM Millennium Silver Sport hood on a wrecked 2001. As many of you know the time to get these is when they are "fresh" and no one has seen it yet.

There is also a red OEM Sport hood in El Paso, Texas from a 2002. This is about a 22-hour round trip drive for me (from College Station to El Paso and back) so I guarantee that I am not driving to pick it up.

I've also seen yards mislabel their listing in car-part. Case in point when I bought a sport hood from a yard they had it labeled as a regular hood but wrote the vehicle was an 2002 sport edition.

Salvage yard talk

Its well known that salvage yards also like to place ads on craigslist. Don't know if its been mentioned already and many may already know. For those that don't, here it is.
When you are searching for 4Runner things on craigslist, type in 4Runner and then search again for 4 (space) Runner. The craigslist system doesn't recognize that enthusiast like you and I will be searching for 4Runner with no space. Many ads are listed on there with the space between the 4 and Runner and they will not come up in results typed in correctly without the space. When I sell Runner items on craigslist I enter it into the title both ways so it will always come up.
Perfect example today.
I have driven to a few yards lately looking for some '01-02 tail lights to go on my '97 but so far all of them weren't in the condition I wanted. I typed in 4 (space) Runner this morning on craigslist and saw a Runner being parted out near my fathers house. I was already driving that direction to meet the buyer of my 4th Gen front bumper cover. The tail lights were on a '02 Sports Edition and in great condition. Yep, I'll take the scoop hood too. Has the usual rock pecks on the front lip and one almost invisible small ding that you probably wont see unless the sunlight is hitting it just right. The insulator underneath the hood is in excellent condition. This was a yard that usually just handles domestic vehicles.

FYI: A 3rd Gen hood fits perfectly in between the wheel wells inside the 4th Gen. :biggrin1:
