I am making a custom 304 Stainless Steel exhaust for my 98 4x4 and wanted to know if anyone was interested in one for themselves....I am not happy with the quality of the products some companies are selling and I come from a racing background where exhausts are made to perfection. Not to mention 3rd gen exhausts are hard to find.
Another problem is the drone sound of these exhausts..That can't be completely avoided, but with a resonator and a muffler it will be controlled.
What the exhaust will consist of is:
-3 or 4 piece due to shipping w/welded on clamps, not cheap u bolts.
-choice of cat-back or a resonator in the place of the cat. w/o2 bungs.
-304 stainless steel (not sure what thickness, prob. need thicker than race style due to off-roading), TIG welded
-flexpipe after the cat/resonator for off road flex.
-choice of mufflers. Magnaflow is my favorite. In the same position as oem.
-hangers will be made to fit exactly like stock...Very easy to install using all oem rubber and hanger hooks...
This is just an idea, if anyone is interested pm me and I will send you picks of the layout and position of flex pipe, muffler, resonator...The quality will be about as nice as possible...A little too nice for a 4x4 truck, but oh well...If anyone has any suggestions or constructive criticism I am open to that..I just want to give other people the opportunity to have a full 304 SS exhaust, (which I have payed over $1000.00 for in the past) at a reasonable price.
The cost is unknown as of now, but the materials will be about, $100/muffler(can be done cheaper w/ a cheaper muffler, $20/flexpipe, $200/304 ss piping, $50/resonato...depending on what I use for a muffler...Then like $100-150 labor......I am thinking like $400-$450 shipped..Once I have a jig it will be easier and cheaper so, the more I make the cheaper they will be...If I could get an order of like 10 it would make it worth while...If I get a response, I will build mine and post the pics..This is not your average piping, this is beautiful stuff...If you have never seen a 304 exhaust I will send you pics....
