3rd Gen Fog Light Options

I've been lurking for quite some time now and have already made use of alot of the great information available on this board.

I have a 1998 4runner with stock rectangular foglights in the lower bumper valance.
Both lights are flooded with water and I am looking for replacements.

I was able to find the stock foglights on Performance Products, but I would rather get better performing driving/fog lights.

I am considering the the Hella 500/550 option, but would rather go with an option that fits in my stock location.

Are there any fog lights out there that would fit in the stock location?

if you are talking about the lights on the bottom of the bumper, directly below the headlights, these are not fog lights. the are the lights that turn on when you hit you blinkers. the stock fog lights fit in the little circular holes on the outside of the lights you are referencing

he has the pre-99 bumper where the fog lights are in the middle of the bumper.

That is correct. Mine are in the middle part of the lower bumper valance, are are rectangular Hellas, I believe (will validate when home) they are approx 4 X 6 in size.

I have a 97 and my foglights where just like yours...In fact when I first went to replace the bulbs the lenses detached from the housing because the seal had completely dried out.

I took it as an opportunity to fix them and make them better (i knew i should have taken pics of this). I removed both lenses and set them aside. Since I had the access to the housing I took a dremel and cut off the metal reflectors (they block the majority of the bulbs output). After that I scraped off all of the chrome paint (which was flaking anyway). Then I bought some chrome engine enamel and high temp silicone sealant (the red stuff). I sprayed a few coats on the housing (letting each coat dry) until it was like a mirror again. Then I laid a thick bead of sealant and put the lenses back on.

Let them dry and throw some Sylvania Silverstars in there and you'll have GREAT visibility. I like my low-beam/fog combo better than my highbeams now.

DTM... thanks for the advice... i definetly considered doing that until I took a closer look and saw that both of my lenses are cracked.... it doesnt look like it will be possible to salvage them...

other than buying the stock foglights off Performance Products or ebay... are there any other options?

You may want to try the Sylvania HID driving light kits...got mine a year or so ago for around $200 for the kit from their website. Been working real well so far.

EDIT: Just checked their website for the Xenarc driving light kits...couldn't find 'em...you may want to google it...

I was hoping to spend less than that, but these do appear to be the right size to fit that spot.

Are there any other foglight options? I saw people with Hella 500s mounter to the top of the bumper, does anyone know if the mounting bracket is drilled into the bumper?
