3rd Gen FX35 Projector Retrofit

Ok..so after i finished my black headlight mod, I decided to move forward with the HID conversion using the FX35 projector housing. Here is where i am at. Please give me any advise that you can offer to help me with the mod.

The FX35 Projectors w/ the one on the R side has been cut down to fit the headlight assembly better. I cut the housing with a dremel and a cutting wheel.

A picture of the washer which will support the color mod that supposedly gives a nice color to the cut-off but takes away from the sharpness.

Here is the enlarged hole cut with a 2 3/4 in hole cutter.

Here is the mock-up without any mounting yet. The shroud is off a $5 sidewalk light from Home Depot ... Please help me out with any info..

The black headlights are still on the 4Runner. I'm playin with the stock ones before hacking up the new ones.

How much did the projectors cost? What price are you looking at for the total for this project? Looks good

LOL I have a few sets of those projectors. What would be bad ass is if you wire up the reflector on the projector to work with your high beams like it does on the actual vehicle. Sucks that I can't see the pics because the net nanny at my work blocks them. Every Infiniti technician can get those because there is a campaign to replace the headlight and taillight assemblies on a lot of FXs. It states that after you do it you have to destroy the lights because they are not DOT legal. A lot of techs break the projectors out of them for projects like this. Depending on how yours turn out I may buy another set of headlights for my 4Runner and try it. :biggrin2:

I'm sure you've read this HID retro thread on YT, but here it is in case anyone else may want to check it out: Click Me

I'm assuming you've opted for the black shouds b/c you're blacking out the headlights too correct? If not, you should get some silver shrouds.

Oh and why do the color mod like that when you can do it behind the lense instead like so: Click Me

Hey and while you're at it, why not go ahead and swap out your FX lenses for a set of TSX lenses?

I'm building up my own supplies to do this exact same retro soon too :D. (Everything has already been shipped...just waiting for every piece to arrive here and there.) Looking forward to seeing your finished product!

That IS possible. See the first link I posted above.

Oh I know it is possible. One of our techs here took a set of FX projectors and made fog lights for his G20 and wired up the reflectors to work with his high beams. Id do it too if they were small enough to fit where the factory fogs go on my 02.

Interested in parting with any of them? Know of anyone who will?

In that case why don't you get yourself a set of Hella Micro DEs:

They are very similar to oem projectors. They have the curved lenses and cutoff shields. Also they are long enough to house a H3 HID bulb :D. Quite a few guys are already running this setup.

How do you align the projector in the oem housing to make sure its level? I know i can aim it with the stock adjusters but I want to make sure it level. suggestions?

I figured it would be easier to just add washers to get a difference of space from the stock setup. Plus i am accomplishing the same thing and i don't have to jack around trying to take the lens off and then back on... But wait..what does the TSX lens do on the FX projector?

I tried hyperlinking them in and it wouldn't work. so just type the item # into ebay site and have it look for them.

ebay item # 380008265413

The TSX lenses make the cutoff lines much more sharper than the standard FX lenses.

Check out the post by member pfdaxe on this link. He has a few pictures for comparison purposes: Click Me

Check out post # 136 on this link: Click me. (Oh and member pfdaxe has the same comparison pictures of the FX lenses and TSX lenses as I posted in the link above on this same thread.)
