3rd Gen Homelink

Can you Mod in a factory homelink in a 3rd gen Runner? I'm looking at buying a 3rd gen and I just like the clean look of not having my opener sticking out somewhere - and not having a key to my house sitting out.

Thanks.

the 3rd gen runners have a built in housing for openers. it is in the spot where some cars have sunglass holders by the sunroof controls. You attach the clicker via velcro in the housing, choose the correct size pins to reach your clicker buttons, and then just press up on the housing cover to operate the garage door. unconventional, but it works

You'd have to wire in the antenna for it, which on the 3rd generations is located at the base of the windshield on the drivers side, in the dashboard molding

I actually kind of like the old school opener hanging from the visor, 1 less electronic mechanism that there is to go bad!

Or you can be creative and do something like I did. Finding a new/used 3rd gen sunvisor with the homelink in it was near impossible for a reasonable price. I found a store on ebay that sold retrofit factory homelink sunvisors for newer camry's/avalons. I bought a set of those and fit that visor to my vehicle. You only need a constant power source, so I just tapped into the dome light power wire. No problems and it looks and works great. Best of all the drivers and passenger visor set was less than $40 brand new
