3rd Gen inaguaral voyage: Mojave Road with mom

A few weeks ago I bought a 3rd gen for my wife (and soon to be child; she's 4 months pregnant) so we would have an adventure rig with 4 doors. The first gen just wasn't going to cut it. Well, I had to be in Vegas for work late on Monday so I decided driving the 130 mile Mojave Road 4x4 trail would be a nice test of the rig. I was telling my mom and she sounded very interested in joining. So, she flew out to LA and we headed off early Saturday morning. The trip was a blast. Really only one challenge for the rig and it was at mile 1- crossing a 3 foot deep water crossing that is about 200 feet long. Made it without issue and after that I was mostly in 2wd with the tires aired down. It's really pre-runner country. Here are some pics.

Yeah, living in the west is way nice. So many fun trips from Death Valley, the Sierra Nevada, Baja, Mojave, Moab.. and on. Maybe you should move

I don't know about moving just yet, but I'm definitely gonna take my runner on a road trip to Arizona to visit a friend. I can probably find some awesome desert wheeling while I'm there!

Those are the lava tubes north of Kelbaker Road about 3 miles north of the Mojave Road route

This looks like a blast of a trip! I envy you and your courage to take that trip with your moms. Love my moms to death.....but 3 days in a car with her would surely result in death for one of us!!!!!

Awesome trip. Love doing stuff like this. Don't need to be out rock crawling to have a good time in a 4x4.

2 days is a fun trip, but if you buy the book by the "Friends of the Mojave Road(or trail), they point out a ton of side journeys and place to explore. I did a lot of that trail in the 90's and really learned a lot. Need to go back, for sure.

The chances of my mother and I going into and coming out of the desert together. Zero or less. Backseat driving has always been a timeless enjoyment for her or so it seems.

Yeah....I would love too spend a week, but that's all I had this time. But I'll be back... Probably in a month
