What have any of you done to upgrade your taillights and brake lights to a brighter lighting setup? Changed bulbs or have you changed out the whole assembly for a different lens housing?

They're the JDM smoked taillights.

Bay seems to be popular for about 160$ you can get a new set

Im pretty sure I just got these off ebay. Ive had them for at least 3 years now. I like them because it adds the brightness of led but still keeps the same basic original design.

I dont have a night pic right now but I can take one later if you would like.

How bright are they and do they use standard bulbs or LEDs?

They use the standard bulbs currently, but I'm going to upgrade to SuperBrightLED.com bulbs. Just with the same bulbs, there is a noticeable difference in brightness, especially with the backup lights. I'm still going to add another set of reverse lights, because...you know...'Murica!!

Ooo these are nice... I can't stand the aftermarket looking lights and have been looking for an LED option.

I like the ones I got. Fit and finish is great, they look stock, but have the nice LED appearance, very bright. Makes the back end seem a little more modern.

If you don't mind telling...where did you get your tail lights at?!? How much were they??

Thank you...

So are these plug and play or do you need to run a flasher thingus to avoid the "hyper-flash"? Or do they just use a conventional bulb for the turn signal?

They are plug and play, they come with a new harness, which means you will have to undo a couple fasteners to pull back the interior panels to connect it all. The blinker and reverse lights are still just standard halogen bulbs. The only LED portion is the brake/driving light. So no relay is needed

Would these fit a 97 runner?

Yes sir, they come with the newer style harness, so you just plug it in and go. It's about a 30 minute install.

Have you had any issue with moisture getting inside the tail light assembly? Many aftermarket units have that problem.
