3rd Gen LED Tails?

I got rear-ended by a motorcycle the other day. I was really lucky he just busted out my taillight, chipped the corner behind the taillight, scraped the underside of the bumper, broke the mud flap free, and bent my exhaust pipe. No frame, body, or significant paint damage to speak of. Had a spare taillight from my dad's 3rd gen project, so I've got that working for now. Bent the exhaust back and was driving it on errands within 45 minutes of the incident. And the guy who hit me is fine, no injuries, thank God.

My question is, has anyone had any experience with Burtman Industries LED tails? Or even the eBay ones? I'd be willing to use sealant on the cheaper ones if necessary before use. I just need something cheap but roadworthy so I can give my dad his taillight back haha. And I was thinking of LEDs before anyway, so why not?

I'm not interested in the clear, black, chrome, jdm style ones... just the regular red and whites with LEDs. :)

Any suggestions or experiences? Much appreciated!

A lot of people use the eBay ones with nothing but compliments, myself included. Just be sure the vendor is selling "Eagle Eyes" brand lights. Its the only good brand.

I have an Ebay brand.

I sent my first set back after a year or two because a row of the LEDs went out. They sent me a new set for $30.

I purchased a pair on ebay for approx. $150. 6mons later one row on the passenger side burned out. The vendor agreed to replace the unit if I paid to ship the burned out unit back to them and pay for the shipping on the replacement as well. I commented to the vendor that I thought that was unacceptable since the purchase was 6mons ago. I did not move forward with the replacement based on the fact that it more than likely would fail again. Other have had the same experiences with LED failing. Do a search for other comments and experiences. Funny thing it appears others experienced simi
lar failures on the passenger side units.

Having said that, Burtman may provide a better product and hopefully warranty. He's a sponsored vendor on this forum.

Hope this helps.......Regards 8sm

Hey, thanks guys.

I've been leaning toward Burtman since I first decided I wanted LEDs. I'll have to look up their warranty and policies and see what will work best for me.

Thanks a lot!

I've been thinking about the same LED setup for mine.....but decided to go with OE replacement pieces from a 2000 - 2002 model....they look better than my 98's, and have a regular bulb (more durable).

I agree though, the LED's do look pretty sweet, but I don't want to chance getting a crappy set, and then have to pay for shipping again to have them send me a new piece....shipping to Canada is MURDER!!!

I'm planning on going with the same seller I got my 99+ Headlights from....

2001 2002 TOYOTA 4RUNNER TAIL LIGHT LAMP RL W/BULB NEW | eBay

It's 2001 and 2002 only, I fixed it for ya, just don't want anyone buying the wrong year................

had the same thing happen to me, got rear ended by a Sequoia though, and she only busted the tail light too (thank goodness) so she cut me a check and i got mine from ebay seller ctrusa. Ive loved them ever since. i think i paid $120.

haha on a side note after you get these your gonna want the LED 3rd brake light too lol!

If your refering to the tails the 01-02 fit all third gens. The eBay sellers just list them all as 01-02. I have a 00 and bought the led tails for my car a month or so ago and they were for a "01-02"

The difference between the 96 - 00 and the 01 - 02, is the backup/turn signal lens is clear on the 01-02......they are all interchangeable on any 4Runner from 96-02.........

Make sure you check the warranty, bought a wood kit from him that had a lifetime warranty and its fading now. He said the company went out of business but he might be able to sell me the parts from a different manufacture. No response from my last two emails. :moon:
