3rd Gen lift questions

Hey guys, new to the site. Ive been doing countless hours of research trying to get a lift setup hammered down and ive come up with some questions that I cannot seem to find answers to. This is what I have so far:

Ill be going with the OME 883 coils with the Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks in the front.

Now the rear is when I come up with questions.

I know that I want to go with Land Cruiser FJ80 coils in the rear. 7.5 or 8 wrap. I would like to have about a 1" rake so when im loaded down with camping gear and what not I will ride about level.

Questions:

1) I stumbled across some OME 2861 coils for the Land Cruiser that are the stock ride height for the cruiser. Are these compatible with the 3rd gen T4R?

2) If so, how much lift can I expect to gain from them?

3) What shocks do you guys run in the rear? Im hoping to achieve some flex with the LC coils so im hoping for something long travel maybe?

I think this is all I have for now. Thanks in advance for the help!

That has been my main point of contact for my research. However, after all of my research I still came up with the questions I posted

from my knowledge the ome 861 is a heavy duty coil , it will yield approx. 4" rear lift with extra rear weight, (off road bumper, tire carrier etc) check brains build out, he has used them. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/67225-brian2sun-build-thread.html

I think you'd be better off with the LC 8 wraps, the 7.5's are about a 3''-3.5" lift while the 8's are a full 4" lift.

so basically it would be bilstein 5100's with the ome 883's in the front which will give a 3"-3.25" front lift

and the LC 8 wraps (4" lift) with your choice of shocks, I personally have had the bilstein 5125 extended length's and they where great, 5125 Series - Universal Fit Shocks

This is exactly the info that I needed. Thank you for the input. Anyone else have any opinions? the ome 2861 are no good then?

:D
the kid , I believe the kid has used the 861's along with the billie 5125 shocks, maybe he can give some insight.

LOL.. They are good. I love mine. They hold their own daily driving and wheeling. I think my lifted 98 Limited drives and handles a lot better on/offroad than my stock 02 Limited. I have 861s and 285 70 17s, no body lift, lots of flex, I ran them with the stock rear sway bar links for 10k miles and no issues, didn't break the links when wheeling. There are quite a few members who run 861s and I have only good things to say about mine.. Those who don't like the rake won't like them, they are about the most rear lift you'll get from a coil without other mods.

The 861's are great coils when used with heavy loads. I run the 861's with a CBI Rear Bumper that's holding a full size spare, hi-lift jack, gas can, and a pretty heavy cargo-box in the back.

For shocks, a lot of folks run the land cruiser shocks for a budget friendly option. BigFishAllDay made a thread on them, but I am too lazy to look for it. Click the link to his profile and look at threads started by him. It, and a bunch of other priceless threads will appear.

In my experience the 8 wraps gained me more like 3"-3.25" on my ride.

Most likely they will ride too stiff without a lot of added rear weight. But some people run them with stock rear weight and like it. Plenty of people use them, but only because no other coil handles the weight of rear bumper, cargo box, fridge, etc as well as the 861s.

i love my 861s. but yes they do require some load. i am fully armored and have a heavy rear bumper -full swing out with 35" tire, two jery cans, high lift jack, lamp pole with two lights, fold down table bla bla bla... it yeilds me about 4" of lift. i also have internal air bags in the coils to help with the load say if im towing a trailer as well(especially if the fuel cans are full of fuel). i run the 5125 shock that toytec sells with the eye to stud adapter. they are a good shock and work just fine for me, sure i blew a couple of them but that was with my 8 wrap coils, they just could not handle the weight.

id say 8 wraps will be a nicer ride if you have no weight back there ie are stock other than a lift and some sliders or the likes. but with a rear bumper the stock LC coils will disappoint. they can not handle the loads. even 9 wraps will sag and be spongy. thats why i went with the 861 coils to stiffen up the rear so it does not ride like grandpas cadilac and so it can handle the extra loads i put in/on the truck from time to time. road manors are great to. it gives it a good predictable feel and is not to harsh but very supportive.

in summery id say only use the 861s with a swingout rear bumper and other weight needs, other wise go with 8wraps. -if later on down the road you want to switch you can easily sell your 8wraps for $80-100 and put that towards a set of 861s -sometimes you can find them used to if you look around. -expo or mud forums would be a good bet to find some.

Did you buy the 8 wraps used? Ive read that they tend to sag a little when bought used.

Thanks everyone for the help. It is much appreciated. i think ill be going with the 8 wraps and the 5125 shocks then. Later on down the road when I have some weight back there ill upgrade to the 861s. I am currently stock.

Where is the best place to pick up some 8 wraps? salvage yard?

Should i buy used or new?

I bought used and would recommend it. Cheaper is better I doubt once settled in these springs continue to sag usually.

I am finally getting back to this as one of my rear shocks is going out. I have a few questions and I am getting confused about which route to go.

The rear:
I have a set of LC 8 wrap coils which I will want to use. I was looking at these from Bilstein to install in the back to accommodate the longer coil.

https://bilsteinlifts.com/shop/toyo...in-5100-rear-shocks-1996-2002-toyota-4runner/

Does anyone have any experience with these? Are they a direct bolt in? I did some searching and couldn't find many people who had used them, especially with the LC coils. I did find one user who mentioned having to change out the lower bushings. If these are made for my 4runner, I shouldn't have to change the bushing correct? Also on the Bilstein website, it says "These are long travel rear Bilstein 5100 series shocks outfitted to work with your 3rd Gen 4Runner and should only be used with our Toytec Superflex 024RCB coils or long rear lift coil springs. Does anyone know if these will work with the LC coils that I already have?

Lastly, I noticed that Bilstein makes these shocks specifically for the 4runner (part number 24-249966). These are relatively new from what I have read and I couldn't find much information on them. Will these be long enough to work correctly with the LC coils?

The front:
I am wanting to install a set of OME 883 coils and I was looking for some Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks made for the 4runner to avoid using tundra or taco shocks. I found these from Bilstein, made specifically for the 4runner (part number 24-248730). These are adjustable, however everywhere I look shows that they are only adjustable up to 2.3". These are also relatively new to the market from what I have read and I cannot find much information about them. Will these work with the OME 883 coils I am wanting to use?

I also came across this kit that comes with the rear 24-249966 and the front 24-248730 shocks which I previously mentioned. It also says that it only provides a lift of up to 2.3". I am wanting to achieve the full 3". Does anyone have experience with this kit and the coils which I am wanting to use?

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

I mostly do overlanding camping/ fishing/hunting trips and don't have any experience with the suspension components that you have mentioned. but I think there are a lot of forum members who do. I think you should have started a new thread or pm some of the members who have suspension build threads and get there opinion plus there is a ton of information on the the forum already to make an informed decision but am surprised that no one chimed in. plus it seems you have it figured out. Good luck. hope to see you on the trails here in colorado.

I did start this thread new, but I started it a while ago. I didn't want to start yet another one so I resurrected this one. There's so much information on this site in regards to lifts, its almost too much and it gets to be confusing.
