3rd gen or 5th gen...

And although I believe the 3rd gen 4runner is the best 4runner and the 5th gen 4runner is close behind....

I have a question for my fellow 4runner peeps. (cuz I trust you guys)

Im about to add another vehicle to my "garage" (read: apartment complex parking lot) and I need to know whether to add a:

3rd Gen Prelude (which I have owned before)

Now I know that this question is probably better suited for a Honda forum, but I love my Toyota peeps too much to not give them input on such a big decision.

Also keep in mind, if I get a 3rd gen I can probably put a few grand into it right away, whereas if I get a 5th gen, Ill have to wait to make any mods on it.

3rd gen definetley, I wouldnt go mod it or anything you already got one modded machine, why not make sure you have a solid fun backup/DD. Put the extra money somewhere else man, maybe into fuel or a new set of tires or maybe a SC for the 4runner, or even a house!!!

The 5th's design resembles that a lot of the 3rd gen Prelude. I like both models, but I'm inclined for newer. Some of those 3rd gens have 4 wheel steering.

The 5th's quite powerful and fun to drive. Never driven the 3rd.

Definitely 5th gen...3rd gen looks like an old Celica or something. 5th gen has always been one of my favorites. Didn't the 5th gen have something like automatic electronic LSD whereby the outside wheel wwas overdriven to counteract understeer???

Yup, it's the Type SH model. It has that ATTS system, I think it stood for Active Torque Transfer System. From one of my friends who works at Honda, the Type SH model is not the one you want to buy if you plan on lowering the car. The ATTS will stay light on the dash.

hard to beat the cool factor of the pop-up headlights on the 3rd gen. I had an old '87 Accord and it was probably the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, even though it had 300,000+ kms on it at the time.

LOL, I loved those pop-up headlights. and when you added the bra it looked even cooler.

I remember though when my wiring harness melted and I had electric problems. the headlights went up and down on their own like they were possessed.

Im leaning toward the lower miles and faster engine of the 5th gen. 97-2001.

I could do more mods with a 3rd gen, but still, I already owned one, kinda looking for a new one.

2000 Honda Prelude type SH
has 106,000 miles on it.

Its super clean inside and out. I love it, its got
DC headers and a magnaflow muffler, its got an AEM short-ram air intake which all create a beautiful NON-RICEY hum...

its got Sparco short shifter kit
Pioneer deck with Ipod connect
Carbon fiber interior trim
HID LED Xenon headlights

I cant wait to take some pics of it and the 4runner all cleaned up next to each other...

2000 Honda Prelude SH

that didnt last long... was fun, but not very practical for a DD when my DD requires a 5 year old and all his school stuff and groceries and dad stuff...

the 4runner is still gonna be a weekend warrior though, already bought a 2001 Grand Am GT1... nice, quiet, comfy, 4door and not too shabby on power. only 175 hp but over 50lbs more torque at a lower rpm.

If I were offroading on tight trails (like I do) I'd choose the 3rd Gen due to the narrower size. For overall driving, I specifically chose the 4th Gen V8 (due to the V8). I bought a 2-Door Rubicon for most of my tighter/tougher trails. If I did not have that, I would have definitely bought a 3rd gen and lifted it a bit. I would have kept my 2005 V8 though. I have a hard time thinking of giving up that one.

gotcha... read the rest of the posts... its in the "all other vehicles" section cuz it was about a 5th gen Honda Prelude I bought and sold last year.
