I am looking at two 3rd gen T4Rs both are 96... both have over 200k both 2wd..both auto..

I have two 4x4 4th gens but I want something to drive back and forth to work every day, in your opinion witch one is the safer bet as far as living long enough to be worth buying. I drive roughly 30 miles per day.

Well, You haven't given any information about either truck, aside from that they are identical in age, mileage and drivetrain.

Go with the one which has had the more recent timing belt change and has better maintenance history.

I know nothing about either vehicle...i did talk to the v6 owner and he said it had a salvage title and the timing belt and water pump were just changed, neither claim to have service records.

By your last post I assume one is v6 and other is i4? Is this correct?
You gave us ZERO info except that they were identical in every way..

If it is between v6 and i4 and you are just looking a runabout good milage suv, get the i4.

I gave the info that was important for me to make up my mind. If I give to much info people start making picking it apart i.e. sun roof, wheels, serviced at, located in, owners.exc.

I had two identical T4Rs both with 220k+ no service records on either, witch one would you put your money on to last longer. Its a crap shoot either way and I had a limited time to get one of them. I was hoping for responses to the effect of; 300k on my 3.4, 2.7 last much longer IMO, my 2.7 blew up at 225k, either one as long as you plan to do a major service asap......I was only looking for opinions from 3rd gen owners with high miles ... I gave Zero info to get an honest response..

No big deal, just thinking out loud on here. I have currently... 2 4th gens, 1 Sequoia, 98 Tacoma, and 83 Hilux....I know Toyota pretty well, I just wanted a bit of feedback. I Have only ever owned 1 3rd gen about 7 years ago, and i loved it, but i sold it with about 115k

Ok Ill say it again.. are you looking at one with a 4cyl and one with 6cyl????? All you told us was that they are the same. By your posts I ASSUMED they had different engines, but you still have not told us they do.

You still have not given us even a single difference between them. So flip a freaking coin.

touche.......I had my Azzhat on tooo tight and forgot to mention that one was a 2.7 and the other a 3.4....MPG is not the issue.... best bet on life expectancy is...

Buy the better one. That would be the one with service records/maintenance done regularly.
The V6 has a timing belt, the 4 cyl has a chain.

lol, Thank you.

Both engines are excellent pieces of machinery. Both engines are known to run forever. It ALL depends on maintenance. The one with the best maintenance history is the one to go.

2.7 has the advantage in that it has a timing chain versus a belt. If the maintenance is good, I would not hesitate to pick up either one of those vehicles.

Drove the v6 and she sounded, looked, acted and smelled perfect. Inside was very good for the miles however the paint was shot and the body work was falling off. I will try the 4cyl tomorrow.

I'd give the slight edge to the 4 for longevity. If it's a commuter, then it's going to get better mpg's too. I know you said it's not a concern, but it can't hurt!

used runner

This has got to be one of the most pointless posts I have ever read. You ask for an honest response but give little information on what to help you with. When one asks for specs of the 2 runner, you are acting like a *** and get defensive on what you want to tell us. Dude do what you want, you made your mind up on your own from the beginning. Dont post help questions if you dont want to give all the information to give an honest answer. Think next time you want to ask a question and want people to reply.

Speaking of useless posts..

You obviously didnt read the whole thread. He realized he didnt give enough info, gave it to us, then recieved the info he was looking for.

Chill out dude. Geez.

oh i read the post. seems like he made up his mind from the start. someone asked for information, and he replies - "I gave the info that was important for me to make up my mind. If I give to much info people start making picking it apart i.e. sun roof, wheels, serviced at, located in, owners.exc"

even from your post you keep saying he is giving ZERO information. you even had to pull it out of him that finally it was 2 different engines.

only point i was trying to make is that its great to ask questions have as much info to give up front. he knew some of it but didnt want post for some reason.

Wow. Ive had to repeat myself twice in one thread..

YOUR POST IS USELESS TOO. Stfu and get off your high horse.

Again, he realized he forgot to mention the engines. Once we got that info, there was no need for any more info from him.

Thanks man, I should have made the title of the post witch motor 2.7 or 3.4....but I goofed. Sucks some people need keep on and on about a lame post.

FYI I chose teh 3.4 because he had proof that the timing belt and water pump had just been replaced. However when I made it out there to look at it (2 hour drive) the thing was pretty torn up on the outside, pait, glass, trim, tail lights, exc.. so I passed....I called the guy on the 4cyl and he had sold it. Now I will keep looking.

thanks for having my back....Twice.....even after you had to pull my head out of my butt. most of the people on here are good folks.
