3rd Gen Prices

I don't know about you, but the 4th gen is ugly to me and I wouldn't buy one, 5th gen is good looking (the predator face has grown on me as well)

4thGen does have that factory V8 thing going for it though....

I agree. I love the looks of all the 4R generations with the exception of the 4th gen. It's grown on me quite a bit since its inception but still my least favorite looking generation.

Anyway to stay on topic with 3rd gens... I got my '97 limited auto with locker and 260K miles for $3400. It had really badly worn 35 MTs, aftermarket wheels, and a pretty big body lift (unsure of size). This was just last month for reference... and obviously I'm still stoked!

I spent a good time yesterday looking all over the country for a 3rd and didn't have much luck. I found a lot of salvage title ones with 160k+ miles for around $6500. That's insane for vehicles that have been considered a total loss. Too bad Toyota didn't replace frames on 4runners like they do on tacomas because there is a 2000 sport 4x4 with 78k miles for $6900 locally but it's from up north with rust. The search continues!

Prices are creeping up around here too. Supply is decreasing, demand is increasing, higher prices are the result.

I think the Tacoma Tax helps too. Guys that can't afford a doublecab Taco and don't want a Tundra might be buying 4runners instead.

I just picked up a mint condition 2000 4wd for $5500 in San Diego. Was looking for over a month and I got lucky I found the ad right after it was posted. When I was test driving the truck, the seller got over 15 calls/texts about it. You just gotta be on it and be willing to drop everything and go if needs be. But they are out there.

I've been searching for MONTHS for a 3rd gen. Seems as if the moment they go up, they get sold. These go fast. I saw a 97 limited with 180k with e-lock go up, went and took a look.. picked it up same day. Had some imperfections but got 3k I can fix her up.

Don't worry. That will probably end up here with a $14k price tag slapped on it.

My wife and I knew we wanted one with options did find a 1 owner cherry 99 limited with locker, but it was at a dealer so paid 10k for it. 152k on clock about a month ago

Hey guys I've been looking at getting another 4Runner since I can't seem to live without one. Lately I've noticed that prices for 3rd gens seemed to have gone up since the last time I purchased one. I know tacomas have always had high prices but 4runners never seemed to be just as expensive. There have been a couple in the classified threads that I would think would be selling for 6-8k but their asking prices are 10k+. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just having bad luck in my search for another 3rd gen?

Selling mine in the FS THREAD.. Check it out.. Great Rig man just the rear seals went.. If probably let it go for under 4k. Let me know!

Paid 8500 (asking 9500) for my 2001 sr5 4wd with 141k miles on it at a dealer after looking for a month, before going to college. I was aware i was overpaying but i had gotten $2000 for a family car I had fixed up. Anyways i realized a MONTH later it had been in some sort of minor accident because i can see where they blended paint on the tailgate, nobody else can see it though even when i point it out, its really hard to see. Also a small rust patch at the wheel-well and chipped side mirror that i already knew about. All these combined made me a little upset i didnt wait longer for something in a little better shape. But the good thing is the engine was in great shape and it runs great and has very little frame rust(none compared to the others i looked at). Im now at 162k miles with no problems except the Firestone breaking my tie rods and a bushing wearing out on the sway bar.

Moral of the story don't rush a purchase. I cant really complain though I go offroading with it anyways plus its the first car i bought with my own money and its awesome even with its little blemishes. :) Good luck!

Just go to the south (texas) where the truck is king. That's where I got mine, this thread makes me feel a lot better about how much I paid for mine.

Haha I'm in Texas and there are very few for sale. The ones that are are either beat up, salvaged, or over priced.
