3rd Gen Prices

Well guys I found a 2000 SR5 5 spd 4wd with 139k miles in what looks to be in really good condition for $9,987. To me the proce seems really high considering I sold my 99 highlander 5 spd e locked for $8000 and it had a lot more done to it. The ad says they have maintenance records but he doesn't mention anything about the timing belt or water pump. I ran an autocheck on it and it came back with no accidents but it has been in Alaska and Hawaii so I'm a little afraid there might be some rust. What do you guys think would be a realistic price for this one? Here are some photos from the ad

That sounds pretty outrageous - How is that price even possible?

My vehicle, I am the second owner. It has never been to Hawaii and Alaska. It is an 2001. Ive had the tb and water pump changed. It has 162k miles. - A few things need done to it - But it would still end up being less than 2x of the $10k 4runner for sale your thinking about....

I would sell mine for $3500. - What are you referring to as the rust? The surface rust on the corners of front and back end?

when i was looking there were 2 in my area, settled on an '01 SR5 4wd w/ 145k miles, no rust and it need some brakes and tires but all else pretty good condition, after negotiating i got him to come down a couple hundred to $3600
 
Hey guys I found a 99 IJM Highlander 4wd with 225k miles that is about 2 hours away from me. It is being sold by the original owner and he says it would pass smog because the check engine light is on for a sensor. He says its in decent shape on the outside with some dents and scratches which is expected for being 16 years old. The best part of it is that it is 5 speed with an e locker!:driving: What do you guys think it is worth?

Just BOUGHT 2 of them!

98 T4R - 231K miles, auto 4WD w/ E-Lckr, leather & all the bells & whistles - $5,400 - small dealership
Small accident, with minor cosmetic damage.

00 T4r - 174K miles, auto 2WD, leather limited & all the bells & whistles - $5500 - Craigslist find
Small accident, w/ minor cosmetic damage, a 2012 accident had the airbags go off, but again minor cosmetic damage

No rust on either one, both have had 3 owners, and an owner on each of them had the truck for over 12 yrs.
I may have been able to haggle some, I'm sure neither guy knew what they had, especially the E locker guy! Engine bays are immaculate, under carriage you could eat off of!
Hope this helps w/ pricing! Now I have three 3rd GENs in the driveway.
 
Well guys I went and looked at the green one. It definitely needs son TLC but once he gets the title since he lost it, it will be mine. I was really surprised how well it ran for having 225k miles on it.

My wife and I learned the hard way, we now make sure to TEST drive AS MANY as we can in the same generation. making notes and COMPARING each to each other.

the reasoning... get familiar with them and see how each handles, the more you drive other kinds the more you know what to expect and when you do find 'the one' you'll know cause you've experienced the good and the bad.

have you driven any other 5spd's with elocker 3rd gen 4runners or was that the only one?

you can still test drive others after you purchase the truck, so you know what's could be improved on yours.

Ya I know what you mean. No this would be 3rd 5 speed e locked 4Runner that I owned. I can tell it definitely needs new suspension but that's to be expected on a 16 year old vehicle. It does have a check engine light for p0446 so I need to figure that out also.
 
The prices are crazy to me. I bought my 1996 4Runner in 2006 for $6500. At the time I didn't feel that comfortable buying a 10 year old truck with over 100k miles on it. It is almost 20 years old and I see 96-99s go for what I paid for mine.

I agree with you! I remember a couple years ago that you would be able to pick up a really nice 3rd gen with under 150k miles for around $6500 but now all of the ones in that price range have over 200k miles in OK condition. I must say though that compared to a lot of these new vehicles on the road that 3rd gens feel like that are built a lot better.

You want a 4th? lol - i am 2nd owner - Id take 3k for it. 162k miles - Both rear axle seals went :(
