3rd Gen Radio in a 2nd Gen

So I have seen some threads of people putting 3rd gen radios in 2nd/1st gens. I'm hoping to do this because I bought a 2000 and want to switch my stereo in my 2nd gen into the new one before I sell it.

What would be needed for the 3rd gen radio to fit? Any special adaptors?

Simple first and most important is find someone parting out a 3ed gen or one on ebay and get a harness from the radio and hav them cut 3-4 inces of cable and splixe it in
