3rd gen rear abs sensors

Could anyone take couple good photos of where the rear abs is routed and where it is connected? Mine are cut out in the back. My speedo was working on the two front ones. Now I don’t have a Speedo even after replacing the front ones. So I’d like to try to wire them back in. But I forget how everything was wired.

I do have one important shot that not many will have. This shows the routing with the diff removed. ABS is clipped to the frame, then the UCA, and then goes on top of the shock mount. The white tongue next to the shock is the underside of the plug that disconnects the ABS sensor from the truck. A beeyoych to get to...you need to pop that tongue through the hole to be able to get the plug down. From there the wires go along the frame to exit into the truck together with the fuel pump wires. Passenger side runs along the round cross-member between the shock mounts to join up with the drivers wire at the driver's shock mount

The sensor is drooped through the drivers spring hole just to keep it off the ground.

Then here you can see the harness coming forward. That white plug halfway along the frame rail on the right goes up into the truck under the rear driver side seat. You can follow it back where it splits at the left side(driver's) shock mount and then you can see as the right side wire loops around the cross-member to the other shock mount.

Forgive our forum brothers; I don't think there is anyway to do a decent job of photographing this without separating the frame from the truck and that is a big ask. Basically, I am the only guy who is going to have these pics.

Here is a good close-up of where the harness splits to left and right branches:

That gray plug by the socket wrench end is to the driver's side sensor going along the UCA.

Here you can see the clip on the diff with the wire coming from the UCA and then heading out of sight to where it bolts in. This is pax side, but driver's is similar.

Looks like two separate harness. One for each side. I believe it’s only 2 wires right ?

One harness that splits like a Y with one very short leg (driver's) and one long one (passenger). left side has plug at left shock mount and right side at right shock mount. 2 wires per sensor. Harness starts under rear driver's seat.

Looks like I have the driver side plug there. The split of long harness is cut of. I could but connect and extend the wires and make my own connector.

Thank you Durk. I’m trying to avoid installing the sensor from transfers case. And run any more wires.

Are you sure it’s the harness for the rear abs ?

Don’t order it online if your not 100% sure imo.. Id just call them and I bet you they will help you figure out what you need. If they won’t I know camelbacktoyotaparts will..

I also am almost positive that's the right part #. I'm going through this myself as parts my body side harness and passenger side rear ABS sensor harness melted when the output of my muffler broke in the perfect spot to direct hot gases to that area (Melted other stuff too in my cargo area which SUCKED :mad2:)

Here's a pretty good diagram (my go to site for diagrams, provided by TheDurk I might add)

TOYOTA 4RUNNERVZN180L-GKPGKA - ELECTRICAL - WIRING CLAMP | Japan Parts EU

There's only 2 harnesses for the pre-2001 trucks - with or without Rear differential lock. That's how I know it's the right part because when I looked up the part for my truck, it showed to 2 harnesses and I know the rear differential plugs into that same harness where it all comes together on the driver's side. By the way, the harness with the rear dif lock is a discontinued part.

In you sig it says you have a 97 with a rear dif lock swap so I assume your truck came factory without the rear dif harness so that part # TheDurk mentioned is available.

If I remember right, that harness runs above the gas tank and through that access panel to the top of the gas tank under the rear driver side seat and carpet. Not sure if you'd have to lower the tank a bit to install it. I contacted Death Cougar on this site and asked him if he had the harness (or at least a portion of it I could splice in.) I have no issue splicing that in and waterproofing it as it's only 2 wires only with no electrical current on them. For $33 though, I would maybe consider just buying the new part and cutting that to my needs if it was too much of a hassle to completely install a new harness.

Oh one other thing, instead of trying to reach up and try to unplug the harness on top of the upper rear shock mounts, disconnect it from the bottom and swing the harness out and down to disconnect. The clip mounts that holds the plugs on top of the shock mounts can be squeezed and released from the bottom with a pair of pliers. This is the same way you release many (not all) of the clips that secure the ABS harnesses to the rear axle housing and body.

TheDurk. I have a elocker axle.

Either way, I’d either swap it or just cut what I need.

Well, if your e-locker is factory wired and working, then you have a different plug (white 2-row with 11 pins) under the rear seat cushion, and you would have to marry into that. If the e-locker was added with the 5-speed swap, then the stock plug should still be there and you could just swap in the new harness and plug into that. I'would look under the seat and make sure I know what I'm dealing with under there where the harness starts. Feel free to post a pic.

The ABS only plug is a white 5-pin one-row plug with the middle pin empty, so four wires. If it is there, then you could just ziptie the ABS harness to the existing e-locker harness going along the frame. Might make it easier.

No. Elocker swaped with custom harness ran. So no factory wiring.

...for the e-locker. My question is what is there for the ABS. I assume then you still have the one-row ABS plug under the seat and then a new non-elocker ABS harness would be plug and play from the rear seat to the sensors. In your case, you WANT a non-elocker harness for the ABS even though you actually have an e-locker, unless they did a real butcher job under the seat. That's why I want you to look.

I was never prewired for a locker. All i did was make my own harness for the locker and ran it as a separate harness. The ABS harness only got cut out from under the truck. Section from the sensor. The driver side plug is there, the long half of the harness is cut of along with the connector.

Is the part# you gave me, will that harness work for 97 ? i dont mind splicing it.
