3rd Gen Rear Bumpers

You should have been taking notes... :nono:

Haha, i was done with the test, he wouldnt let me leave after i was done, so i made myself productive.

and yea cj80 i got the pics early this morning, i had to figure out how to do it from my iphone.

any info on how to order up a bumper from you jtree? im pretty interested. im sure a couple of other guys would be interested as well. considering my stock front and rear bumpers are driving me insane. :redbrick:

You Sir, are a steelie eyed bumper craftsman. LOL

At first glance, the bumper is uniquely functional with an appealing familiar design. Very nice building foundation.

Considering the advice offered and the interest, it appears you have taped into a need.

IMO if you're able to duplicate with like-kind steel material used by fab. bumper vendors and keep the cost down......ala alot less expensive......you will have a winner.

Congrats on what you have done so far,

Regards, 8sm

SO how heavy is that beauty?

that hole on the underside for exhaust? looks a little small.

but it sure is cool looking bumper.

I already have a CBI on the table, but other wise I would probably be interested.

Yeah.... we all know your getting a CBI. I'm just a JEALOUS hater. LOL

Hell of a job on the GB.

Good luck with the finals, its was not to long long long long long long long long time ago I studied for mine.

I'm back home now from Moab. Thanks for the feed back if I have missed a question I am sorry. As to the weight I have not yet weighed it I put the thing together just to have something on the back. About all that I can for the weight is that it only settled the rear suspension less than a 1/4"
I am running 6.5" Iron Rock Off-Road WJ springs in the rear which are likely at a different rate than most run.
As for the 1/2" space for movement I understand. Nobody wants a messed up body over movement. I will not sell anything that is going to mess up body panels. I can afford to run this gamble of damaging sheetmetal as I have not done the bodywork that I plan on doing.
For all who are reading this please understand that putting this bumper to production is going to take a while. My primary income is from contract work commercial and residential. If you just have to have one or want one even more unique pm me and we'll see if arrangements can be made.

what would be a good base price ball park figure for a replica of what you have on your runner ATM just to get an idea

Not trying to steal your glory cj80. I was sitting around in class this morning and had some time to kill.

How do you get away with out running a Pan hard bar?

A replica bumper ball park? Steel prices are way way up but a very rough ball park around 800-900.
As to the suspension the track bar was deleted buy my fabrication of a "Y" link. The factory uca's scared the tar out of me as they were tiny. I didn't like the track bar due to the left/right axle travel at 4" of lift. Also I replaced the lower control arms with adjustable long arms I made from 2" dom. This set up beats the crap out of the factory set up. Gone is the bouncing one rock ledges. It was the best mod to the truck yet other than the my coil sprung "Lefty" fzj80 sas I performed.

your running a y link without a panhard??? That suspension setup should still have a panhard. At least from all the ones I have seen. Glad it works for you. Im planning on Chevy leafs in the rear once i sas

Panhard/trackbars aren't always needed. Have you ever looked under a Jeep Grand Cherokee or a Suzuki Sidekick? There suspensions work well. If I were you I'd do more research before swapping in leaves unless you plan on towing tandom axle trailers with over 3000# in tow. It's just my opinion speaking from personal experience and preference. I wouldn't be afraid to take a look at other 4x4s in depth building a linked suspension isn't as hard as some might make it out to be. Chevy springs are a great inexpensive option. Marlin and All-Pro-Off-Road are good to but far more exspensive.

Great idea on the upper wishbone! I've thought about that myself. Did you use the factory upper front link mounts? If so, did you beef up that cross member at all to support the lateral loads? I would love to see some pics.

Chevy leafs are just fine, and if you get them off a 2wd they will be nice and soft, especially with a 6k lbs 4runner. I know what im talking about, I was just working on a buddies second gen sas with chevy leafs in the back, its plenty soft.

I know track bars are not always needed, but with a y link you should have one. You just cannot get enough triangulation out of the two lower links to hold it steady. But hey how would I know? I have helped y link a cherokee. Building a triangulated 4 link that drives good on the street is pretty challenging. Its just a tight squeeze. and a bunch of money. 2" .250 wall dom isnt cheap, neither is 1.25" heims or 1" johnny joints. Junkyard leafs are cheap :)

Wasn't trying to nock your leaf springs. Everybody has different luck. My truck has excellent lateral stabilty and I haven't had my axle shift left to right contrary to what one might think and with my design a panhard would cause bind/added stress to the "Y" link in off camber droop and compression situations. On the highway a panhard would increase stability but at 70+ mph I don't feel any less comfortable than I do in my stock Superduty. Maybe we are miss understood on the panhard but it really doesn't matter as long as your truck works for you and mine for me. Best of luck with your sas!

For Patco
Yes the upper x-member is still stock and I didn't change it for the sole purpose to see if the upper mounts could take the stress. My goal was to give a narrow wishbone a shot on this truck changing as little as possible to give myself and others what can be done without as much work and cost yet not forgeting about safety. FYI the whole set up only took part of a day and cost me less than 400 with 2" .250 wall dom lca 36" arms.
BTW I am not the most comp saavy...but does anybody else have probs getting picts to upload directly from their comp. They have failed everytime for me. Do I have to use photobucket, imageshack or some other photo share site?
Thanks
