3rd gen shock questions

I have a 2001 4runner with 170000 miles that is stock and is in need of new shocks and maybe springs. I don't want much of a lift so if I do the springs also, I'm just going to go with the '99 tall springs. I drive 99% of the time on the highway so I don't want a harsh ride so I've ruled out the KYB's as I've heard that are really stiff. Everyone says Bilstiens are great but what model numbers should I be looking for. Or should I go with Rancho RSXs or OME's? I've heard the Tokicos are pretty much the factory shocks. Who has the best deals on this stuff?

Any help would be appreciated!!

I used the Bilsteins sold by Toytec lifts, it includes a different mount which will ease future shock installs immensly, but im not sure if the shock would be too long with just the tall springs. I got the ome 891's (med duty) would some on here said would be stiff daily. With the Bilsteins the ride is fantastic, better than stock IMO.

I'd honestly call Toytec direct as they would know which shock would give the best ride for that spring, or any other vendor on here as well. So far everyone i've dealt with off this forum has been very helpful
 
From advance auto you can get monroe quick struts for about 90 a piece, rear monroe sensa trac shocks about 30 a piece and new moog rear coil springs for about 40 bucks. Use coupon code a123 i believe. You can even pay with paypal. I just did all this to my 01... Even though the components claim stock ride height my truck sits a good 1.5 in higher. Rides great. Just remember to get it aligned immediately after.

Just my take, as it's what I'm putting in my 4runner this weekend.

Front:
- Tundra TRD Coils. with Tundra Isolator.
- Tundra Bilstein Adjustable 5100s.

Rear:
- Stock Coils (for now).
- Universal Bilstein 5125 with 7.62" travel (eye to stem).

I've been warned that if I ever to lift my vehicle, that I'd have to replace the rear shocks with something else.

I know the ones that toytec sells are for lifted trucks only and are meant for offroad use mostly. I just want to make sure that the bilstein HDs aren't too stiff for the highway. I have it narrowed down to the Bilsteins Tokicos or Rancho Rs5000 as the OMEs are too expensive.
 
I run the Bilstein HD's on stock springs, they ride great. They're really just meant to be an OEM replacement. They're the same shocks Toyota uses on the TRD packages.

004RunnerLTD, you do realize you're truck is going to be very, very front high with that set up, right? You're going to be about 2" higher in the front than the back.

Correction: From reading up a bit more, these will provide a minor lift, even at the lowest setting.

I'm going to be setting the adjustables at the lowest setting, which is the stock ride height (0" lift) for the best possible ride. And if in the future, I want to lift my vehicle, I'll make the adjustments.

The lift comes from the coils. Being on the lowest perch will help but you're still going to get lift out of the springs. The lowest perch is the same spot as the fixed perch on a non-adjustable shock from my understanding.

I guess we'll find out this weekend! Haha.
I'll be installing the front first anyways, if I need to make adjustments to the rear suspension to even it out, I will return the 5125s.

Go with bilstein
Front; model number bilstein 24187244 Amazon price $72.86

rear; bilstein 24024528. Amazon price $69.96.
