3rd Gen Specific Rack or Build One?

So I cant decide between making my own roof rack (I would have to buy a welder and learn to weld, which I've always wanted to do), or using tax return money for a roof rack.

I KNOW I want a rack that fits into the rails, I don't like the look of racks sitting on the cross bars.

Soo...Who makes them. I know of Bajarack and Gobi. Bajarack is nice, but I would have to spend a little more on the light mounts as I want to relocate my lights to the roof. Gobi is ridiculously expensive so thats out. Outdoor logic was considering one before the epic bumper buy so they might be out for a while. Any others?

Would I be in over my head if I decided to make my own?

check Craigslist, I picked an full length ARB off Craigslist for $250. I did have to fabricate my own mounts, but I did not need a welder. Mainly just a creative approach and some hardware from Home Depot.

Id bet pretty much any rack you find could be fitted to fit our 3rd Gens with not much fabrication.

yep, sure did! It came with just the rack, no mounts. It probably cost me another $50 to $60 for the metal and hardware to mount it, but still a good deal overall.

I really love that rack. Its exactly what I'd want mine to look like. I didnt even notice there was no welding. That makes it a lot more feasible. How much did materials cost you, if you wouldn't mind?

For everything it was about 200.
