Is the purpose of this to lighten the back end?

How functional is it really?

Seems to me that it just creates drag.

supposed to keep the back cleaner from dust dirt and all, however i hear ppl with the spoiler still get same amount of dirt/dust with or without the spoiler. however i would like one to add to my rig. so if anyone wanna pm me with their spoiler sitting around go ahead!

How easy is it to remove?

Do I have to plug any holes?

If so, how do I go about doing that?

Just remove the couple screws and wa-la it is off. Yes you need to plug the holes. This can be done by placing a neoprene washer under the head of a screw(cheap and easy). You can take the time to fill with body filler and then use touch up paint to cover the spots. If you put a Safari basket up top then the rear spoiler pretty much stops being effective.

I took mine off and noticed exactly zero effect, as far as keeping the rear glass clean. It did serve to increase drag, though! Toss it.

yea i was going to say. i never had one until i was rearended and the new hatch had one on it. There is absolutely no difference with or with out it pertaining to cleanliness

I took mine off and simply put the screws back in the holes. I had it up for sale on this forum along with some other stuff, but it found a new home last night. I can tell no difference one way or the other on dirt, drag, or whatever, ....., I took it off because when I would open the rear door all the way up, it would rub on my Surco roof rack.

Put a dab of clear silicone in the hole before threading in the screws. I replaced my screws with stainless ones so they wouldn't discolor.

Dust will still build up spoiler or no spoiler but it takes a while longer equipped with the spoiler and I prefer the look as opposed to no spoiler. It's mostly personal preference.

I don't understand how the design slows the dirt buildup on the back window.
