3rd Gen T4R Interior & Lights

Hello to all, i am new to this site but given what ive seen from the browsing i've done i am sure someone can assist me.

I have a 2000 T4R 4WD SR5. It's been passed down from my father to my brother to me. The car has 180k miles but runs fine. My check engine light had been on for 2 years and then when i changed some parts it went off and yesterday i put my car in 4wd for the snow and as the green 4wd indicator light went on so did the check engine light and now it hasnt turned off. Any ideas?

My main reason for this post are the problems inside;

The dashboard lights are fading, the ones for the radio and HVAC controls is completely out and only flashes sporadically.

If I play a CD and go over a bump the CD either stops playing or skips.

When i go to put the left turn signal there is a buzzing sound and you have to gently put it exactly in the right spot for the turn signal to work.

Last but not least my car stinks, ive washed it, detailed it, scrubbed it down but there is still a lingering smell that is very foul.

I have a cloth interior so its not as easy to clean i guess. Is there something i can do to make this stench go away?

wow lots o' problems... i like the two YEARS with check engine light on the best!

sounds like you got a a loose electrical connection or bad ground or draw coming from somewhere, dash lights in the HVAC are known to go out, may need replacing on some of them, bulbs are replaceable with some work.

check for current coming from the alt and your grounds first.
i'm thinking your alt's on the way out...at least it's the easiest thing to check and would effect all electrical systems...otherwise you're going to start looking at individual circuits which is no fun....


green light for 4x4 won;t turn off, check vacuum lines first then check actuator in the rear. this is another area with common issues, search the forum for trouble shooting info, thinking vac lines as check engine came on at the same time....


cleaning...can't help you, sounds like a personal problem, no common issues surrounding that.... $300 or less get you all new carpet... try that if all else fails...

two years on a check engine light.....please post pics, as my imagination is running wild about the state of this thing....
