3rd Gen T4R Platform...?

Hey,

I have always been curious to know what type of platform the 3rd Gens are based on. I know they are very capable off road and can last a a few hundred thousand miles with proper maintenance, but am curious to know if they are based on the Tacoma of that time period or possibly a smaller version of the very superior off road vehicle in the Land Cruiser.

I'm sure some of you 3rd Gen aficionados would know the exact answer.

its actually both.

the frame is a modified version of the Landcruiser Prado. and shares some other stuff too. the front suspension and drivetrain, the engines, transmissions, and random other bits are shared with the tacoma

4Runner runs on a 90 series LandCruiser Prado platform. The 90 series came in a variety of wheel bases and configurations. The Hilux came in a single cab, king cab and double cab, long bed, short bed models with fully boxed frames. The LandCruiser Prado could be had in a 2 door Rav4-like size and the full size 7 passenger vehicle, 4Runners came in one size, and then the Tacoma which uses a modified frame with open C channels.
