3rd Gen Tacoma suspension on 4th Gen Limited

Hey all,

I know people have posted about this but my account would not let me access questions on the specific post, so I have to create my own.

I have a friend with 2019 Tacoma TRD Pro who removed the original front and rear struts and coils with only 500 miles on them.

I have watched several videos and know that the front strut and coils are a direct swap. I believe I will end up getting a 1" or more lift on the front when I switch these out.

My main question is are the rear struts a direct swap between 3rd gen Tacoma and 4th gen 4Runner. I read that the lower bushing might have to be replaced?

Can anyone confirm using a 3rd Gen tacoma rear strut. Did you use the rear coil as well? How much of a lift in the back did you get?

My intention is not for lifting the 4runner but because my original suspension has 212k on it and I can feel every bit of it.

I currently have the XREAS but will just be removing it.

While I'm under there, is there anything else I should look at and replace based on age?

I did half of this swap. The 3rd gen Taco coilovers exactly leveled my 07. I have replaced the lower bushings in the rear shocks, but haven't installed them yet. Can't speak to the coils as the guy I bought mine off of had leafs. I hope to get the rear shocks installed this next week. If so I will let you know how much if any lift I get.

What was the outcome on this? I've recently picked up my own set and am curious to what I can expect

Sorry for dropping the ball. The rear shocks fit just fine after the bushing swap...BUT the ride/body roll was NOT improved. According to Mike @ Dobson's the 3rd gen Taco rear shocks are not suitable for the Runner. I bought Bilsteins.

This was also my experience. The fronts are great. But the rears—and to be clear, it’s just the shocks since the 3rd gen tacos had leafs—are not suitable. I also went with Bilsteins as well, just using the set specific to the 4th gen 4Runner. I’m using Moog FJ Cruiser rear springs for my rear coils. I’m sure OEM would have been better but the Moogs are working great.
