3rd Gen TRD SC to be discontinued by Toyota June 30th 2015

All new sales of the SC for our 3rd gen trucks are being discontinued.

Not a joke. What do you guys think?


Toyota Discontinues TRD Supercharger Program

In a bulletin sent to its parts and service managers at Toyota dealerships nationwide, the Japanese automaker stated that it will no longer support the TRD Supercharger effective with the 2016 model year. According to Toyota, all current inventories of TRD Superchargers and associated components will be sold down to zero stock levels and will no longer be offered for sale once all those units are gone. As a result, each dealer will be limited to a maximum purchase quantity of five TRD Superchargers and five each of any of the related parts until June 30, 2015. After that date, dealers will be able to order any remaining Supercharger part numbers without limitations.

Service Placement Parts and technical support for past models equipped with the TRD Superchargers will continue to be available for at least 10 years, although no ECM calibrations will be made available for any future model year vehicles, beginning with 2016.

Toyota will discontinue the Supercharger kits for the 5.7-liter V8 Tundra, 5.7-liter V8 Sequoia, 4.0-liter V6 Tacoma, 4.0-liter V6 FJ Cruise, 3.4-liter V6 5VZ-FE engine and the 4.5-liter inline-six 1FZ engine.

I personally prefer turbochargers since some are a little bit more affordable than the TRD supercharger. And I don't really care that they need more maintenance.

Turbos do have the potential to make way more power than Superchargers but the lack a quality turbo manifold available for the 3.4 means you are stuck making your own. That makes the ease of install for the SC hard to beat.

makes since, they have pretty much moved on from 3rd gens and everyone who has a 3rd gen and wants a SC (new) probably would have purchased one already.

bu thtat just means parts and prices will be harder to find and as these trucks get older supercharger prices will start to go up.

Agreed. Someone just needs to step up to the plate and offer a bolt on turbo manifold for the 3.4's.

I started a new thread about this earlier but deleted it since this one has replies. It's a sad day, as the TRD SC totally transforms our trucks. I've driven brand new 4Runners and they felt so sluggish compared to our 15 year old SC'd trucks!

I want to have a SC at some point, would be nice. This makes it even more of a pipe dream though. I don't have the cash to do the TRD/URD SC thing, though I really want to, but I figured I could always do it in the future sometime when I make more $.

Not surprised, I thought they would have done this sooner.

A friend of mine's uncle works for Toyota; they are trying to trim down or get rid of all costs that don't have a minimum ROI for their bottom line, hence their exit out of CA.

I have ridden in a Tundra with a 5.7 SC. Quite fast, though IMHO it loses some of its identity as a truck.

Expect those SCs to fetch more on Fleabay for sure.

That when my nosecone bearing finally fail, i'll actually have to do all the press work myself and track down parts off ebay?

Really sucks tho that they they are doin this, eh, i really want a turbo now tho after stumbling upon the "turbo rock lobster" lol... i want that sound from the vids

CX racing sort of has one but their turbo is a cheap Chinese POS but I agree with you someone needs to offer one.

There's been other members who bought this kit and had some of the welds break. It's really cheaply made.

Plus 10% of the nation can't buy them because of strict emission laws (California residents).

Nope. They are now officially more rare than they were before. They are gonna fetch 3k+ new now, seeing there's still millions of 4Runners on the road.

They have been continuously available since 1998. You can buy one today if you want, although the price went up $250 since I checked last month.
