But if they don't support them or if the support costs go up then maybe demand will go down. Hard to say but I think for the next 2-3 years prices will be higher. After that who knows as we get closer to that support agreement.

I myself 'purchased' one yesturday and then got a notice from the dealer that they are on backorder. I called them and the guy had no idea about them being discontinued.He told me if they can't get one they would cancel my order. Time will tell if I have a supercharger or not.

they are awfully quick to raise their prices... it was $2700 few weeks ago, now it's $3000.

I wasn't going to spend 2700 instead I was going to get a used one, nevertheless this sucks.

Yeah but expect the price to keep going up. They used to be $2,695 when I was first looking to buy a 4Runner last year and I expect that as inventories drop prices will go up. Simple economics of supply and demand. Same will go with the nose cones.

That's not the way discontinued parts work. The dealer marks them down and get rid of them, certainly don't raise the price. Any price increase over last couple years is due to inflation. Not sure what economics class you took, but you might want to seek a refund.

Look at the OG ipod. Apple discontinued them and now they sell for more than new... I see prices climbing. Used stuff will be sold for the cost of new stuff a year from now. This isn't some part that nobody wants, it's a highly desired item. People will continue to want them for many years.

Thats shock factor. That will stop here soon. There are not 1000's of people really modding that hardcore looking to SC there runners. The simple fact is they rose with inflation.

This is becoming like an academic discussion, but I say just consider it from your personal perspective/situation. If you have been meaning to do the s/c upgrade in the future, the availability of it in the future is not certain.

If you never planned on it, who cares that TRD no longer makes s/c.

It may turn out that remaining supply maybe greater than demand, but no one can predict as of today. It may go up and it may go down.

The same eBay link that I posted, they sold 17 units in one day, so I ordered one cause I felt like it maybe harder to find one in the future. If I don't ever get around installing it, I can just sell it again at cost.

Service replacement parts and technical support for past models will continue to be available for at least ten years, per Toyota dealer agreement terms.

I wish I had snapped up a few earlier, I could make a cool $400-$500 a unit by re-selling them! Would have funded the audio and engine upgrades I want to do. Oh well, maybe another time.

No wonder why I love driving it, it's almost as quick as the new ones! I wish Toyota had just sold the 4Runners as a "performance" option with one installed, rather being an add-on you could buy if you knew about it.

Actually there is no comparison between a supercharged 3rd gen and a 5th gen; a 5th gen is 730 pounds heavier and lacks the flat torque curve of a SC'd 3.4. Plus, your numbers aren't quite right--the gray 1st gen supercharger boosts horsepower to 265 and the black 2nd generation TRD supercharger gets 5 more hp for 270hp. Add a URD kit to that with a smaller pulley and you're knocking on 300 hp. I have driven two 5th gens now and I'd guess they are 1.5 to 2 seconds slower to 60 MPH than my SC'd 3.4.

The documentation for the SC, which I linked below, says 265 hp but that's for the older white superchargers.

Even better! I'm not sure where they get the HP numbers though, those seem a bit inflated. Everything else I've seen show a max of 75 HP increase (63 in others, maybe that's the 1st gen charger?) added to the base 183 HP for the 5VZ-FE. The brochure references a T100, maybe that's why? I'm yet to get mine dyno'd so I don't know for sure where I stand.

Anyway, it's a lot of HP for the motor for little cost. Superchargers for the newer Tundras can cost $4500 or more!

I will add that most of the 2014-2015 0-60 numbers were slower than that, but whatever. (Motorweek tested a 2014 at 8.5 seconds to 60 mph)

Basically, a 5-speed 3rd gen with no supercharger is only a few of tenths slower to 60 than a 2015 4Runner. A supercharged one will obliterate the 5th gen. But that's not saying much since the 5th gen is a very heavy girl and any economy car these days can beat either.
