I have a 1999 3rd Gen SR5 and I was wondering what I could do to make it louder. It just isn't as loud as I would like it to be. Now I don't want it to be super loud but I just want it to be louder if you understand what I'm saying could someone tell me what I need to do. Thanks

1. bolt removable bar across rear tire well.
2. use clothespins to attach playing cards that will just barely contact wheel
3. enjoy!

I've heard using alternating face cards gives you the v8 rumble.

But seriously at the risk of sounding like a dick is this your first vehicle? Maybe its just me from being around cars for so long but I consider the question of making a vehicle louder to be on the same level as how do I change a tire.

Where does the noise come from? Intake and Exhaust.

What intake?

Let me google that for you

What Exhaust?

Let me google that for you

The internet helps those who at least attempt to help themselves. If you expect for others to help you you should at least be willing to attempt to find the answer yourself first.

Sure guys, troll the new member who obviously needs a lot of help.

Like stated before look into intake and exhaust upgrades. What you want is probably just a new muffler, the Magnaflow line sounds awesome IMO. Or if you really want to you can get a high flow cat and the muffler, then have a shop re-do your tubing. At that point you almost need to upgrade the intake. Cold air or short ram kits are plentiful online. However they don't do much to the sound, at least to me.

For all we know, this could be the OP's first vehicle. Cut the guy some slack. We all had to learn the basics (like changing a tire) at some point. This site is, by far, the best source of 4Runner info out there. So it's a pretty good place for newbies to learn about there rigs.

OffRoadBuck, I really like the sound from a Borla, but also check out Flowmaster and Magnaflow.
Do a search of the forum for those, there are a few threads, some with sound clips. Also be sure to check out the stickies, TONS of great info.

I'm planning to change my muffler with a magnaflow 11256 or maybe a borla, the magnaflow is louder than stock but is not crazy loud.
