100%. I'm still having a hard time pulling the trigger on a new 5th gen for my wife because I don't like how it looks. I find myself staring at the 5th gen hoping that my opinion will change but have a hard time getting over the look of the predator mouth front end. I THINK I can get over the bulging eyed looking headlights and tail lights but I want to slap the ugly off the front end. But compared to whats new, available, what I functionally need & within my budget I think my best option is still the 5th gen. I've been close on a couple occasions putting my deposit in for the trd pro waiting list but bailed because of how much worse I think the front looks in person.

Really? In my opinion, I'm the opposite. I LOVE the agressive front end of these but am meh about the rear end.

I was really set on getting a '14+ Trail. Then I was like, do I really want a car payment that big? Then I was thinking about selling my car privately (no trade in rape) & buy a 5th gen. I think I can still Get $10K for it. Why do I need two trucks & no gas saving DD? Plus there's no 8cyl option. 4th gens can look great depending on color, lift & tires. I was really close to pulling the trigger on this beautiful 05 V8 Sport. It's still for sale in the classifieds . Check out the 2011-2013 models. They look closer to a 3rd gen than the 2014+ do.
 
My father just picked up a 17 TRD Pro, it's an awesome rig. I would trade my 3rd gen for it in a heartbeat. It does feel really large in comparison to the 3rd gen though.

I'm still holding out that they put a V8 or Diesel in the next one... I'm also interested in how long this body style sticks around. It seems to be polarizing. Some folks love it, others hate it.
 
I test drove a 2018 4Runner a few weeks back. It rides smoother but handles just like my 3rd Gen. Other than a touch screen and a few useless options (auto retracting running boards? No thank you) the only difference was that it had 3rd row seating and cost $52,000 compared to mine that cost me $7,000. I could buy 7 of my 4Runners with that much money!

Not to mention the engine was pretty much gutless. They added 1000 lbs in weight and barely eeked up the engine to 247 hp I think. My 4Runner blows (literally) those 2018's out of the water.

Just not my style but I'm hoping my opinion will change because aside from the looks, I like everything else about it.

I do like the front end on the earlier 5th gens a little better than the 2014+ but if I go the 5th gen route I'm going with the trd pro because it already has the features I want from the factory.

This is why I'm hopeful that my opinion on the 5th gen will change because I never liked the 4th gens until the 5th gen came out. I like the 4th gen because it has a more traditional looking front end but trying to find a lightly used 08-09 without a sunroof has been almost impossible. Thought I found one until I saw some rust underneath. I'd prefer to have something new or lightly used since it's for my wife & knowing myself, if it has more than 60-70K i'm gonna want to change out everything to new which defeats the purpose because I want to get something for her that I don't have to mess with as often.

I've revisited the idea of getting a 2015 Land cruiser instead of the 5th gen but deciding if it's worth it to pay the same amount it would take to buy a new trd pro for 2015 Land cruiser with >50k miles. I've considered the GX but really don't want a sunroof. I'm willing to compromise having a sunroof on a land cruiser because it's a land cruiser but don't think I like anything else that's out right now enough to make that compromise. I don't even think the 2015 LC is all that but I do like the looks of it a little more than the 5th gen. The back end of the LC is just as funny looking though.

It wasn't intentional but this has been a pressing issue on my mind since the beginning of the year. :behindsofa: I need to get my wife a new ride after I get my house situation completed & I'm on a slight time crunch. :violin: If I can't make up my mind I think I'll probably default to the trd pro since the only thing that's keeping me from it is the looks & hopefully my opinion on it will change.

$52k? Geez, ah, no thanks. I'd go with Connor to his tight pants dealership and purchase that truck first.

My sis has a 2013. Kid carrier. Her good friend bought a 2017 last year. Much better driving than my sister's ride so she, my sis, is looking at a 2018 when her bonus comes in May.

Haha, no worries this is just a bullshit thread anyway. I know most of us are always contemplating a new ride. So this gives people a place to voice their opinions. I said I'd never buy another 3rd gen unless it was a manual, now look, I have a limited because of one owner & e-locker. We were also looking to get my GF into a 6cyl 4th gen & we ended up with a low miles Outback LL Bean, sometimes you have to jump on a good deal. It's not like we settled for a Ford Explorer LMAO! :cheers: Besides, like I said in another thread, one of my new years resolutions is to be more of an attention whore like [MENTION=95183]octanejunkie[/MENTION] with useless threads. :flipoff:

That's a tough one. I think all Gens have ageless looks. I have a soft for the 4th Gen due to my Dad having the (first of the 2nd Gen) 2005 Taco Double Cab. He bought it brand new and is closing in on 200K miles. It's been babied over the last couple of years and he has no intention of getting rid of it. I wasn't a huge fan of the 5th Gen refresh went it first came out but now I'm all in haha. I do agree with others that I'd wish that Toyota did more with the rear of the 5th. I think they did a good job with front's refresh: there is a presence about it. Like it or not, you can't miss the 5th Gen. And think that's the gameplan for Toyota/Lexus vehicles. Their vehicles are going to stir up emotions/responses to anyone who sees them. You couldn't say that about majority of their lineups 5-10 years ago.
