3rd gen wanderlust build

Last night I was able to get the rest of the support bars cut and coped.

Tonight I will cut the mounting feet and start tapping the plate for the bolts. Also ordered material to build a 4'x8' fab table so I can weld this up without laying on the floor.
 
Sweet build man. How do you like the 4xinnovations rear swing out latch mechanism?

I've been eyeing their rear bumper up but can't much feed back on them.

I liked it at first as it was a nice solid mount, but after driving 2500 miles off-road it seems the fitment is not as tight as the whole carrier now moves. It moves enough now that the tire carrier contacts the license plate frame on the hatch.
Before by hand I could barley move the tire carrier and now I can push it enough to get it to contact the license plate frame which is about 1.5" away. I need to look into a fix.

If I did it again I would not purchase their rear bumper at least. The rear bumper I had to trim so it wasn't contacting my body and I had to hammer the pinch weld as it was resting on the cross bracing. I also don't like how close it sits under the flare as it looks like if I contact the bumper hard enough it could cause damage.

That's unfortunate ... :( I was really seriously considering it for the latch mechanism. I'm not a huge fan of those Destaco latches as my friend has one and its rusted to hell.

And looks like the CBI tire carrier flexes a lot as well (theres a video of someone dragging the tire and damaging their hatch from the deflection of the carrier).

Have you looked at Sonoran Steel's poly body mounts? It's supposed to address all that flexing from the added weight.

Looks like I'll have to go back to the drawing board as to what rear tire carrier...:help:

Yes I installed sonoran steel's body mounts a couple days after installing bumper and it stopped the bumper from contacting the body.
 
Haven't been able to work on the roof rack yet as I am still waiting for my material for the fab table to arrive. I did receive my 14x16 wall tent and new stove though.

Should make my late season elk hunt over thanksgiving much more enjoyable.
I also found this weekend the cause of my tire rubbing. I occasionally get a rubbing noise when turned all the way and stuff the tire, but could never see where it was rubbing. Turns out it is on the coilover remote reservoir strap.

Looks like new wheels are now needed as I also can't run my nice set of tire chains on the front or rear due to the remote reservoirs being too close.
 
Got back from my elk hunting trip and towed the military trailer packed full of gear for a week of camping in wall tent.

After a few days we located the elk and got a cow elk. Meat hanging in trailer

The next morning we went back to locate the herd of elk to get another one, but woke to find it had snowed 18" overnight. We made it back to the same spot, but quickly slid off the road on a steep section and had to use the winch to get out. Aired down the tires to 10psi and slowly made our way back to camp and made the decision to pack camp and head home before the conditions got any worse

Swapped back to the OME 891 coils tonight, hated the way the 861's rode compared to the 891's and I was getting a driveline vibration that I was chasing down for the last week running the 861's. Going to go with a airbag setup with the 891's and see how long they last with that combination.

Quick question for you. I just finished up my front end with the TC gusset's installed. How did you install the upper ABS bracket as it no longer wraps around the spindle? Mine is temporarily installed with protective tape and two heavy duty zip ties. I'm thinking of a radiator type hose clamp or drilling a hole in the gusset and welding a nut plate on the rear. Thanks!

I used two heavy duty zip ties, at some point I was planning on welding a bracket on to hold it more securely.
 
Looks like this build is finished. last month I picked up a sequoia to replace the 4runner. Will be putting the 4runner up for sale in a few weeks.
