3rd generation quirks which we all face, but love the vehicle regardless

Granted i have not owned my 4runner very long and put far less miles on mine then you, but i was wondering is this the average fuel usage on a 3rd gen? cause i have gone ~300 miles on my last tank and i still have a 1/4 tank left. If my calculations are correct, that would put me close to 21-22 mpg, and that is 75% in town driving. Is my gauge more likely broken or do others see similar results.
* note * mine is still stock, maybe thats why?

My dashboard is splitting. X2 on the blue interior, sun roof half way-non auto close, and the non auto power up windows. My antenna has never worked. Being 6'2" I would like more options on the seat height. Rear hatch handle is giving me issues. I also find that my parents 2001 has a lot less creaky noises while off road. My 97 sort of makes a lot of noises. Um... uncomfortable seats. Also the heat is either really hot or just cold, no in betweeners. I still get buzzing in the door panels while listening to music even with sound deadening mat. What else...... OH! The window wash squirter thingys are crap. All you get is a stream of washing fluid. My brothers Jeep would pump out a powerful "fan" spray that would cover the whole window.. I also find it hard to warm up the back seating area during winter. On long trips passengers need blankets back there. Oh and I agree with the above comment about limited range. 300 miles MAX for me.
All these things considered..... I don't really care that much. Toyota makes a solid ride! :hatsoff: I fricken love my 4runner.

What are your specs? Mine is a 99 4x4 with the 3.4 and an auto. If you have a 2wd 2.7l and a 5 speed your MPG could be significantly better. I know my Tacoma with the same 3.4 liter motor and a 5 speed got about 20% better MPG than my 4runner even though the Taco was longer and they both weighed about the same.
It also depends on the kind of driving you're doing. Long, flat, straight highways are great, you can easily get 300+ miles on a tank (I got about 377 last time I went on a long drive) but around town, doing a lot of short trips in Winter I've had the low fuel light come on at 185 miles. :wow:

Or you could just stick your key in the rear slot and turn it. That also makes the window go up and down.

Well if all you guys can come up with is stuff like the window doesn't roll down in every instance possible and the cup holders suck, then I'd say things could be a lot worse haha. I'd like to see one of these kinds of threads on one of the Ford Exploder or Chevy Blazer forums, they must be like 1500 pages long!
I have a 01 3.4 w/auto. I do a lot of stop and go, mostly around town stuff, maybe 70 miles of the 300 were highway. Im at 310 right now with just a smidge under a quarter. I think perhaps its because she's so new to me that i am still in the honeymoon period. :biggrin2:

I'm surprised at how many people don't know this. The liftgate should also unlock when you roll down the window and lock when you roll it up.
My only complaints are the relatively weak and unresponsive engine, the rear sag, and accelerated rusting. The only reason why I mention these is because the 2nd gen had the same issues. The EXACT same issues. I still couldn't pass it up though!
