3rd row- 2008-2009 models

Hey guys. I love the forum. The 4Runner is my favorite car/SUV of all time. My wife's lease on a Mazda CX-7 is up in June and I would really like to get a 4Runner to replace it. However, we have two young daughters and would love to have a third row (even if the space is tight) just to accomodate any additional passagers for short trips

I would love to get a Limited version but have noticed that many 4Runners at the local car dealerships do not have the 3rd row option.

I realize that many 4Runner buyers would not even want this option and therefore, this may be the main reason for not seeing many with a third row. Would a local dealership be able to locate a Limited version with a third row for me?

A dealer would be able to check the computer system and search inventory in your region of the country. They can find out if the one you want is on a lot somewhere or due to arrive in the next month or so.

Even though there are many possible options listed in the brochure, Toyota creates two or three "standard builds", or option combinations, for each trim level (such as Limited) being shipped to your region. You can find out what those builds are by going into the "Build Your 4Runner" area on the toyota.com Web site. That application will only let you select groups of option combinations that are the standard builds. If the third row seat is not in any of them, then odds are that the dealer will be unable to locate one for you. You can also try entering different ZIP codes into the Web site to get an idea if that option is on any standard builds in another part of the country.

While Toyota does allow dealers to submit special orders, not all dealers are willing to go down that path. It takes about three or four months to get a vehicle that is ordered special.

Why not go to the Toyota web site, configure what you want, then let it see what it can find for you?

Unfortunately, Toyota's site still doesn't allow a full inventory search in all regions of the country. If your regional distribution channel doesn't provide that (like the Chicago Region), then all you get is the generic info about the standard builds, and you have to visit individual dealer Web sites or go there in person.
