3rd row on trail edition

has anyone out there figured out if it is possible to add a 3rd row seat in the trail edition? not an aftermarket seat but the actual toyota setup

Toyota.com's "option" section lists the 3rd row seats as "unavailable" for the TE.

im not quit sure why you posted that response. im well aware of that. what i was asking is if any of the 5th gen owners see it as a feasbile option or have spoken with their dealers about having a toyota dealer install one after it is ordered and in the dealership.

a dealer i bought my 3rd gen for just told me it cannot be added after the fact. i hope toyota chooses to add it as an option next yr or make it available for people to add it on their own.

Adding it on your own would be pretty involved and expensive. The 3rd row adds different rear interior trim to accommodate the higher deck and a completely different, sliding 2nd row...and that's just the obvious stuff. Also, weight capacity on vehicles with the 3rd row option is 330 lbs higher, so I'd assume you'd need to beef up some suspension parts as well.

Sure, It's possible if you have alot of cash to buy the new parts or find someone who has the 3rd row and does'nt want it and will swap.They are built on the same frame and body.The manuals are all posted on the forum with the part numbers and procedures to remove and install.

There was somebody with 3rd row that did'nt want it and wanted to swap a couple of months ago. I think the biggest hang-up is the overhead air bag sytems are different and expensive.They might not be necessary though.

I would throw a couple of bean bags in the back and call it a day. Only kids can fit in those third row seats anyway.

Actually, that smokin' hot Baja rack and some good tie downs could hold the kids, as long as they're both under 300 lbs. Just be careful going into the garage.

Seriously, are you sure you can't live with an SR5 or Limited? (assuming you haven't bought a trail yet.) Both are still very capable off-roaders.

Hmm... I think my solution is the best (see image below).

Well they sure look W, Z or Y rated - don't ya think??? But I'm guess a person might have to drive a bit slower to ensure the safety of the cargo being towed.

Are those BOB wheels on that InStep bike trailer? Curious how that came about. They definitely look cooler than the stock setup.
