3rd row seating - do you lose space in 2nd row?

Currently casually looking around for used 4runner sr5’s. The 3rd row seating wouldnt be used all that much, woukd would be nice on a few occassions.

Primary concern is 2nd row space and cargo area. From what i can see, the 3rd row folds almost flat so i dont think you lose too much cargo area. But im not too sur how much, if any, space you losemfor the 2nd row pasengers by having the 3rd row.

Anyone know for sure?

I think row 2 space is the same. You loose about 5-6” vertical of storage in the entire cargo area. While it does fold flat, row 2 doesn’t fold as low as trucks without the 3rd row.

I’ve had both. My 14’ SR5 had a third row the seats down fold forward all the way just folds on top of itself which creates a slight upward ramp. It’s fairly level with the third row when folded flat (except how it ramps up slightly towards the front of the vehicle). You loose quite a bit of space with the third row about 6” of space bottom to top. I had two large dogs and they could not sit up completely straight without hitting their head. I rarely used the third row so to me this was wasted space and extra weight to carry around (100# approx). I traded it in for a Pro and love how much extra space and headroom there is now for the dogs. The seats in the second row also fold up differently to me is better too much better for putting a sleeping pad down and sleeping if need be. The second row space when seats are up are about the same with and without the third row. If You barley plan to use the third row then I wouldn’t get it I tried putting the goose gear third row delete in but then with the third row removed the second row closed and was 6” higher than the cargo area so again not great for my dogs.

As above, the loss of vertical cargo area is the larger issue with the 3rd row seats. I didn't realize until we got it home and started packing for our first roadtrip the extent of it.

I have the 3rd row. All of the above posts are spot on. I would only get it if you need it more than once or twice a year given the points above. I use mine once a month and glad I have it. Two boys 3 and 5 the third row is perfect to haul their friends around town or an extra family member or two around town.

The second row seats recline and slide backwards giving lots of leg room. The main issue as mentioned is the additional height of the third row seats. I don't use mine so it's wasted space

I could probably give or take the 3rd row. extra space would be nice but so would the 3rd row seats every once in a while. I'm looking at a few trucks now so I'll just have to see what pops up for a good price.

Personally I think its worth it. Another great feature with the 3rd row models is the second row has the capability to slide forward and back thus making more room for those 2nd row individuals. While the headroom is lacking in the 3rd I think any young teenager or smaller kid its perfect. It's not a full-size SUV so the 3rd row is that of similar competitive vehicles that are midsize.

I also know how big of a pain it is to find a 3rd row which is why I sprung on mine when it popped up.
