3RDgen front drive shaft

So I have a 97 4x4 that didn't have the front drive shaft when purchased. I got a DS yesterday and plan on installing it tonight. It didn't come with any of the bolts for it. Can anyone tell me what size bolts I need to pick up for the install. I planned on picking them up on my way home so that I didn't have to go out again once I leave.

Thank you

You are all wrong.

front d/s is nuts on studs at t/c, nuts and bolts at diff. They are all 11mm x 1.25, Toyota special, very difficult to find elsewhere, except mcMaster-Carr or dealer.

So you need eight nuts, eight washers and four bolts. T/c forward output flange should have four 11mm x 1.25 studs.

I learned something new today! :humble:

I was going to pound out the studs and put the bolts in because I thought that someone had wedged the wrong bolts into the flanges lolol. I guess I have some extra driveshaft hardware now...

So for now until I get the real ones I used some Grade 8 bolts, nuts and washers just to test and make sure everything is working and I don't need a T-Case or front diff... Thanks for all the info guys.

If you go with hardware that's not OEM be careful. You're saying Grade 8 hardware which is the imperial system. You're going to need to go metric on this, and you'll want a Class 10.9.

Imperial Grade 8 is going to be a Metric Class 10.9, and Imperial Grade 5 is going to be a Metric Class 8.8. Grade 8 bolts have a yield strength of 130,000 psi. Class 8.8 bolts have a yield strength of 92,000 psi

Nothing wrong with using Class 10.9 fasteners either. As I repair things I've been swapping bolts out to 12.9's due to the fact that they're easier to find.

I also use BelMetric for all my metric needs.
